What is the need to place a vascular access for anaesthetic procedures in children?
Conclusion The risk and benefit of any intervention in children should be assessed. The final decision to place a venous access for peri-operative management of children depends on patient age, degree of difficulty of the vascular access, type of procedure, duration and, finally, the anaesthetist's own perception of safety. Individual experience counts when it comes to the final decision. (Source: Colombian Journal of Anesthesiology)

Traumatic brain injury and treatment with hypertonic sodium lactate. Will it become the best management alternative?
Conclusion Efforts to find better clinical outcomes in patients with TBI have confirmed the need for new management alternatives supported by the understanding of the pathophysiology. Given its multiple modulating endocrine-metabolic effects on secondary injury, lactate has been found to be a promising therapy in the management of TBI. (Source: Colombian Journal of Anesthesiology)

Current use of Resuscitative Endovascular Balloon Occlusion of the Aorta (REBOA) in trauma
Conclusion Resuscitative Endovascular Balloon Occlusion of the Aorta is an alternative that can be used in damage control surgery. It could be effective for early control of bleeding in patients with non-compressible torso haemorrhage. As a complex intervention, REBOA is in its development phase, and the evidence available preclude us from providing strong recommendations. (Source: Colombian Journal of Anesthesiology)
