Biomechanical changes in the cornea following cataract surgery: a prospective assessment with the Corvis ‐ST
Conclusions and RelevanceCorneal stiffness is reduced three months following cataract surgery and is associated with falsely low intraocular pressure measurements. This finding may be important for glaucoma patients and in particular when assessing the effectivity of Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery devices. (Source: Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology)

Synthesized glucocorticoid ‐induced leucine zipper peptide (GILZ‐P) inhibits photoreceptor apoptosis and protects retinal function in light‐induced retinal degeneration model
ConclusionThe synthesized GILZ ‐p prevented light‐induced photoreceptor apoptosis and protected retinal function from degeneration, and is therefore a potential therapeutic option for degenerative retinal diseases. (Source: Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology)

Emerging infectious uveitis: Chikungunya, Dengue, Zika, Ebola
Recently recognised forms of uveitis include intraocular inflammations that occur during or following one of several emerging infectious diseases: chikungunya fever, dengue, Zika virus disease and Ebola virus disease. Anterior, intermediate, posterior and pan ‐ uveitis have been described in individuals infected with chikungunya virus. Persons who contract dengue or Zika viruses also may develop different types of uveitis in the course of the infection: maculopathy is a common manifestation of dengue eye disease, and Zika eye disease may cause hyperten sive anterior uveitis or mimic a white dot syndrome. Up to one‐thir...

Epidemiology of ocular trauma in the Indigenous vs non ‐Indigenous population in the Top End
Conclusions and RelevanceIndigenous patients were disproportionately affected by visually significant ocular trauma compared to non ‐Indigenous patients. This research provides important data on ocular trauma in the Northern Territory. Further prevention strategies are needed to reduce vision loss in this population. Cyclodialysis cleft repair: A multi ‐centred, retrospective case series
Conclusions and RelevanceThere was a high closure rate with most eyes eventually requiring surgery. Clinically significant improvements in BRVA were found in most eyes. Improved postoperative BRVA was significantly related to better preoperative BRVA and IOP. (Source: Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology)

Shanghai Time Outside to Reduce Myopia trial: design and baseline data
Conclusions and RelevanceMyopia prevalence was high at nearly 8 to 9% in school children aged 7 years in Shanghai, China. The current trial will help evaluate if increased time outdoors has a role to play in reducing the incidence of myopia and/or slow the progression of myopia. Presence of diabetic retinopathy is associated with worse 10 ‐year mortality among Indigenous Australians in Central Australia: The Central Australian ocular health study
Conclusion and RelevanceThe presence of any DR among those with DM, was associated with a 75% greater 10 ‐y all‐cause mortality rate and were more likely to die from renal failure or stroke. We recommend that whenever DR is noted among Indigenous Australians with DM, that they be immediately referred for investigation and management of risk factors, which might predispose to renal failure and strok e.
