Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Apr 18. doi: 10.1039/d4cc00258j. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEpimers of the (1,10-phenanthroline-2,9-diyl)bis(ethyl(phenyl)phosphine oxide) (Et-Ph-BPPhen) ligand with two chiral centers (R,R/S,S and R,S) were synthesized. The configurational effects on the coordination ability and mechanism between these epimeric ligands and uranyl ions were thoroughly investigated. This work is helpful to reveal the effects of different conformations of epimeric ligands on their coordination properties.PMID:38634237 | DOI:10.1039/d4cc00258j (Source: Chemical Communications)

Pure separation of acetylene based on a sulfonic acid and amino group functionalized Zn-MOF
Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Apr 18. doi: 10.1039/d4cc00863d. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe dual-ligand strategy was employed to synthesize a new microporous material, [Zn3(SNDC)(AmTAZ)3(H2O)]·H2O·CH3CN (1), incorporating sulfonic acid and amino groups for enhancing gas adsorption and separation. The activated 1 (named 1a) exhibited selective adsorption of acetylene over carbon dioxide and methane. Hence, the dual-ligand strategy optimized the pore environment and provided an effective approach for pure separation of gases.PMID:38634274 | DOI:10.1039/d4cc00863d (Source: Chemical Communications)

Electrochemical-induced solvent-tuned selective C(sp < sup > 3 < /sup > )-H bond activation towards the synthesis of C3-functionalized chromone derivatives
Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Apr 18. doi: 10.1039/d4cc00919c. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAn unprecedented solvent-tuned electrochemical method for selective C(sp3)-H bond activation towards the synthesis of C3 functionalized chromone derivatives has been developed. This electrosynthesis protocol provides an efficient and green way to access various C3-functionalized chromones by avoiding traditionally employed transition metals and high temperatures. The swappable chemoselectivity was controlled mainly by altering the solvent and the current. A plausible reaction mechanism has been proposed with the help of radical capture ...

NIR-absorbing and emitting α,α-nitrogen-bridged BODIPY dimers with strong excitonic coupling
Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Apr 18. doi: 10.1039/d4cc00878b. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThree new distinct NIR α,α-NH-bridged BODIPY dimers were prepared by a direct nucleophilic substitution reaction. The synergistic effects of the nitrogen bridges and strong excitonic coupling between each BODIPY unit play major roles in enhancing the delocalization of an electron spin over the entire BODIPY dimers. The in situ formed aminyl radical dimer showed an absorption maximum at 1040 nm.PMID:38634482 | DOI:10.1039/d4cc00878b (Source: Chemical Communications)

Exploring mitochondrial targeting: an innovative fluorescent probe reveals Nernstian potential and partitioning combination
This study introduces a paradigm-shifting approach to optimize mitochondrial targeting. Employing a new fluorescent probe strategy, we unravel a combined influence of both Nernst potential (Ψ) and partitioning (P) contributions. Through the synthesis of new benz[e]indolinium-derived probes, our findings redefine the landscape of mitochondrial localization by optimizing the efficacy of mitochondrial probe retention in primary cortical neurons undergoing normoxia and oxygen-glucose deprivation. This methodology not only advances our understanding of subcellular dynamics, but also holds promise for transformative application...

Endogenous H < sub > 2 < /sub > S-activated Ag nanoparticles embedded in programmed DNA-cubes for specific visualization of colorectal cancer cells
Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Apr 17. doi: 10.1039/d4cc00085d. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTo avoid the unexpected aggregation and reduce the cytotoxicity of nanomaterials as optical probes in cell imaging applications, we propose a programmed DNA-cube as a carrier for silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) to construct a specific hydrogen sulfide (H2S) responsive platform (Ag NP@DNA-cube) for diagnosing colorectal cancer (CRC) in this study. The DNA-cube maintains good dispersion of Ag NPs while providing excellent biocompatibility. Based on the characteristic overexpression of endogenous H2S in CRC cells, the Ag NPs are etched by H2...

Plastron effect enhanced electrochemical CO < sub > 2 < /sub > reduction activity over hydrophobic three-dimensional nanoporous silver
In this study, we employed an electrochemical reduction approach to fabricate a hydrophobic three-dimensional nanoporous silver catalyst with a plastron effect, aiming to enhance the CO2 diffusion. The resulting catalyst exhibited an exceptional performance with the FECO peaking at 95% at -0.65 V (vs. RHE) and demonstrated remarkable stability during continuous electrolysis for 48 hours. Control experiments, together with Tafel analysis, EIS measurements, and contact angle results, confirmed that the notable enhancement of performance was attributed to the hydrophobic porous structure that facilitated efficient storage and...
