Safety and Efficacy of Ticagrelor versus Clopidogrel in East Asian Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Treated with Dual Antiplatelet Therapy: A Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
Conclusion: Ticagrelor increased the risk of bleeding and did not increase treatment efficacy compared to that of clopidogrel in the East Asian population who have ACS treated with PCI. (Source: Cardiology)

Mild Tricuspid Regurgitation: A Marker of Disease Burden Independently Associated with Increased Mortality
We examined the clinical characteristics and echocardiographic properties of subjects with TR and its impact on clinical outcome with particular emphasis on subjects with mild TR. Methods: Consecutive echocardiography examinations during 5 years were evaluated for TR severity and outcome including mortality and cardiovascular hospitalizations. Results: The study included 21,429 subjects; 45% of the subjects had mild TR, 15% had moderate TR and 6.5% had severe TR. Primary organic TR was evident in 7% of the subjects, a percentage that increased with increasing TR severity. TR severity was incrementally associated with old...

Understanding Troponin as a biomarker of myocardial injury – where the path cross with cardiac imaging
Troponin elevation in myocardial injury are a common findings in hospitalised COVID-19 patient. Biochemistry detection of the changes are due to underlying various pathological process. The subclassification of the process require supplemental investigation particularly with cardiovascular magnetic resonance. Late gadolinium enhancement and parametric mapping offer excellent virtual tissue characterization of the pathological process following myocardial insult with excellent histological correlation. The understanding of where the biochemistry and cardiac imaging cross in describing myocardial evolution following COVID-19...

Haemodynamic gain index is associated with risk of sudden cardiac death and improves risk prediction: a cohort study
Conclusion: Higher HGI during CPX is associated with a lower SCD risk, consistent with a d ose-response relationship, but dependent on CRF levels. Though HGI significantly improves the prediction and classification of SCD beyond common cardiovascular risk factors, CRF remains a stronger risk indicator and predictor of SCD compared to HGI. Feasibility of patient-managed ECG recordings to detect the time of atrial fibrillation recurrence after electrical cardioversion; Results from the PRE-ELECTRIC Study
Conclusions: Recurrence of AF after ECV was common. Using patient-managed thumb ECG was a feasible method to detec t AF recurrence following ECV. Further studies are needed to investigate whether patient-managed ECG after ECV can optimize AF treatment. (Source: Cardiology)

Do elderly patients with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction benefit from pharmacological strategies for prevention of arrhythmic events?
Background Heart failure constitutes one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in Western countries, in which it is also the leading cause of hospitalization in elderly patients. The pharmacological therapy of patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) has greatly improved during the last years. Summary The quadruple therapy (sacubitril/valsartan, beta-blockers, mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists, and sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors) is nowadays the cornerstone of medical treatment since it associates lower risk of heart failure hospitalizations and mortality (also of arrhy...

The key role of a Psychoactive Substance Use History in comprehensive cardiovascular risk assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention
Abstract Background: Psychoactive substances have toxic effects resulting different cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular organ damage. Through a variety of mechanisms, they can trigger the onset of various forms of cardiovascular disease: acute or chronic, transient or permanent, subclinical or symptomatic. Hence, a thorough knowledge of the patient ’s drug habits is essential for a more complete clinical-etiopathogenetic diagnosis and consequent therapeutic, preventive, and rehabilitative management. Summary: The prime reason for taking a Psychoactive Substance Use History in the cardiovascular context is to identify ...
