Publication of pharmacy resident research projects: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Pharmacy resident research project publication rates are low at 13%. Furthermore, studies reporting project publication rates over time suggest a neutral or negative trend in publication rates despite an exponential increase in the number of pharmacy residents.PMID:38530288 | DOI:10.1093/ajhp/zxae091 (Source: American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy : AJHP)

Iatrogenic hyperchloremia: An overview in hospitalized patients for pharmacists
CONCLUSION: Management of hyperchloremia is preventative in nature and can be mitigated through management of resuscitation fluids, medication diluents, and total parenteral nutrition. Inpatient pharmacists should be aware of the potential risk of fluid-associated hyperchloremia and assist with optimal fluid management to prevent and manage hyperchloremia.PMID:38530649 | DOI:10.1093/ajhp/zxae086 (Source: American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy : AJHP)

Analysis of 10-year income trends for pharmacists and other select health professionals
CONCLUSION: Growth in pharmacist income is projected to lag behind that in other health professions in the near future. Individual-, organization-, and profession-level strategies may facilitate opportunities for income growth among pharmacists.PMID:38530987 | DOI:10.1093/ajhp/zxae087 (Source: American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy : AJHP)

Comprehensive workflow evaluation to improve medication distribution to the emergency department in an academic medical center
CONCLUSION: This study showed that implementation of standard, hourly batches of medications dispensed from the pharmacy to the ED resulted in a significant reduction in the total percentage of redispensed medications and missing-medication messages. The overall reduction in redispensed medications as a result of this innovative workflow change not only benefited nursing and pharmacy staff but can reduce medication waste and improve patient care through timely administration of medications.PMID:38527294 | DOI:10.1093/ajhp/zxae084 (Source: American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy : AJHP)

Evaluation of a pharmacist-led workflow for the FDA Expanded Access Program
CONCLUSION: Given the lack of published information on a pharmacist-led workflow related to EAP services, this study sought to share DUH's process for managing EAP requests. As there is no mechanism for reimbursement of EAP services, they can be difficult to manage given the labor resources required. Further work is needed to recoup unreimbursed investigational drug service labor costs to ensure compassionate use programs can be implemented in a manner that is financially sustainable for a health system.PMID:38527421 | DOI:10.1093/ajhp/zxae088 (Source: American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy : AJHP)

Impact of pharmacist-driven referral to increase specialty pharmacy prescription capture
CONCLUSION: Expansion and implementation of pharmacy services by integrating a CPS in a rheumatology ambulatory clinic increased prescription capture and pharmacy revenue while optimizing patient care.
