Comparison of DNA methylation and cytology tests in urine to detect upper tract urothelial carcinoma: A paired-design diagnostic study
CONCLUSIONS: The test performance of DNA methylation was satisfactory. The DNA methylation test for the detection of upper tract urothelial carcinoma demonstrated better sensitivity than did cytology alone or cytology with FISH, but the accuracy of the combined tests was still acceptable. Further prospective studies with larger samples are needed to confirm the clinical value of this promising method.PMID:37793040 | DOI:10.1093/ajcp/aqad116 (Source: American Journal of Clinical Pathology)

Examining the role of diversity, equity, and inclusion in mitigating workforce burnout in laboratory medicine
CONCLUSIONS: Findings from this study highlight the urgent need for interventions to address burnout, discrimination, exclusion, and inequity in the laboratory workforce. Initiatives to increase workforce diversity, promote mentorship and diversity training programs, and improve recognition of the laboratory workforce are recommended. The results underscore the pressing need to addressing the challenges and apprehensions laboratory professionals face, including enhancing recognition of their role in patient care, tackling systemic problems related to discrimination and equity, and enhancing the provision of support and res...

T-cell large granular lymphocytic leukemia in Vietnam: Using microscope-to-screen videoconferencing to improve diagnosis
CONCLUSIONS: Our virtual consultation model has improved patient care in Vietnam by providing correct diagnoses to inform best practices in treatment. As a result of our program, the first Vietnam diagnoses of T-LGLL were made and may help expand on the literature in this area. This model could provide cost-effective, real-time consultation and education services for pathologists in underserved communities.PMID:37788085 | DOI:10.1093/ajcp/aqad121 (Source: American Journal of Clinical Pathology)

Anatomic and clinical pathology services and infrastructure in Zambia
CONCLUSIONS: This study of 17 unique laboratories represents the most complete analysis of pathology capabilities in Zambia. Despite initiatives to improve pathology services, both personnel and infrastructure challenges remain. Given a population of approximately 20 million, expansion of anatomic pathology in Zambia must be prioritized.PMID:37773021 | DOI:10.1093/ajcp/aqad113 (Source: American Journal of Clinical Pathology)
