Environ Res. 2023 Mar 21:115731. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2023.115731. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOne of the most consumed pharmaceutical subgroups across the world is nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). However, the dissemination of these compounds to the natural environments through agronomic practices is a serious global problem. The hypothesis of this study is to reveal the transition of selected NSAIDs, paracetamol (PAR), diclofenac (DCF), ibuprofen (IBU), and naproxen (NAP) together with six main metabolites, detected in raw/treated wastewater (RWW/TWW) and sewage sludge generated in an urban wastewater tr...

Eur J Pharm Biopharm. 2023 Mar 9:S0939-6411(23)00059-0. doi: 10.1016/j.ejpb.2023.02.017. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe paper presents a method of increasing the permeability of various active substances through the skin by means of a rotating magnetic field. The study used 50 Hz RMF and various active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) such as caffeine, ibuprofen, naproxen, ketoprofen, and paracetamol. Various concentrations of active substance solutions in ethanol were used in the research, corresponding to those in commercial preparations. Each experiment was conducted for 24 hours. It was shown that, regardless of th...

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 2185: Evaluation of the Defined Bacterial Consortium Efficacy in the Biodegradation of NSAIDs
yńska Due to the increasing pollution of wastewater with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, preparations need to be developed to decompose these drugs. This work aimed to develop a bacterial consortium with a defined composition and boundary conditions for the degradation of paracetamol and selected non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), including ibuprofen, naproxen, and diclofenac. The defined bacterial consortium consisted of Bacillus thuringiensis B1(2015b) and Pseudomonas moorei KB4 strains in a ratio of 1:2. During the tests, it was shown that the bacterial consortium worked in the pH range from 5.5...

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 2174: Boron Lewis Acid Catalysis Enables the Direct Cyanation of Benzyl Alcohols by Means of Isonitrile as Cyanide Source
Jian-Jun Feng The development of an efficient and straightforward method for cyanation of alcohols is of great value. However, the cyanation of alcohols always requires toxic cyanide sources. Herein, an unprecedented synthetic application of an isonitrile as a safer cyanide source in B(C6F5)3-catalyzed direct cyanation of alcohols is reported. With this approach, a wide range of valuable α-aryl nitriles was synthesized in good to excellent yields (up to 98%). The reaction can be scaled up and the practicability of this approach is further manifested in the synthesis of an anti-inflammatory drug, naproxen....

Preparation of molecularly imprinted silica particles with amino functionality for chiral separation of ( ±)-naproxen
Chirality. 2023 Feb 7. doi: 10.1002/chir.23541. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHerein is the synthesis and effective use of an S-naproxen (S-NP) enantioselective adsorbent material with amino functionality for the enantioseparation of a (±)-NP racemic mixture. To begin, the S-NP enantiomer of (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane was used to create an amide derivative (S-NP-Si-NH2 ). In order to incorporate the S-NP enantiomeric species into the cross-linked material, the developed S-NP-Si-NH2 derivative was combined with tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) and subjected base-catalyzed sol-gel condensation polymerization procedure. The S-NP...

Efficiently photocatalysis activation of peroxydisulfate by Fe-doped g-C < sub > 3 < /sub > N < sub > 5 < /sub > for pharmaceuticals and personal care products degradation
In this study, a Fe-doped g-C3N5 (Fe@g-C3N5) was synthesized as a photocatalyst for catalyzing the PDS-based AOPs to degrade tetracycline hydrochloride (TH) at pH 3 and Naproxen (NPX) at pH 7. The photocatalytic performance of Fe@g-C3N5 was 19% and 67% higher than g-C3N5 and g-C3N4 for degradation of TH at pH 3, respectively, while it was 21% and 35% at pH 7. The Fe:N ratio in Fe@g-C3N5, was calculated as 1:3.79, indicating that the doped Fe atom formed a FeN4 structure with an adjacent two-layer graphite structure of g-C3N5, which improved the charge separation capacity of g-C3N5 and act as a new reaction center that can ...

Masking the Taste of Fixed-Dose Combination Drugs: Particular NSAIDs Can Efficiently Mask the Bitterness of Famotidine
This study aimed to evaluate the bitterness of famotidine (FAM) combined with each of three non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs): ibuprofen (IBU), flurbiprofen (FLU), and naproxen (NAP), which have potential as fixed-dose combination (FDC) drugs. We evaluated the bitterness of FAM and each NSAID by taste sensor AN0 and C00, respectively. FAM showed high sensor output representing sensitivity to bitterness, whereas three NSAIDs did not show large sensor output, suggesting that the bitterness intensities of three NSAIDs were lower than that of FAM. The bitterness of FAM on sensor AN0 was suppressed in a concentrati...
