In vitro and in silico assessment of anti-quorum sensing activity of Naproxen against Pseudomonas aeruginosa
This study aimed to investigate the effect of naproxen on biofilm formation and QS-related virulence traits ofP. aeruginosa. Furthermore, the anti-QS potential of naproxen was evaluated using real-time PCR and molecular docking analysis. Our findings supported the anti-QS activity of naproxen, as evidenced by down-regulation of thelasI andrhlI genes expression as well as the attenuation of bacterial protease, hemolysin, pyocyanin, biofilm, and motility. Additionally, the high binding affinity of naproxen with QS regulatory proteins was determined in the molecular docking simulation. Altogether, these findings suggest that ...

Quantifying the Impact of Dysmenorrhea Symptoms on Quality-of-Life and Access to Oral Contraceptives by Income
CONCLUSION: Dysmenorrhea affected most participants in the cohort with an impact that extends beyond professional obligations. Income was found to be positively correlated with increased OCP use, whereas education level was inversely correlated. Clinicians should consider how patients' backgrounds influence their access to OCP options. An improvement on this study's findings would be to establish a causal relationship between these demographic factors and access to OCPs.PMID:37405315 | PMC:PMC10317510 | DOI:10.52965/001c.74120 (Source: Pain Physician)

Pairing Electrocarboxylation of Unsaturated Bonds with Oxidative Transformation of Alcohol and Amine
ChemSusChem. 2023 Jun 27:e202300807. doi: 10.1002/cssc.202300807. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA parallel paired electrosynthetic method, coupling electrocarboxylation incorporating CO2 into ketone, imine and alkene with alcohol oxidation or oxidative cyanation of amine, was developed for the first time. Various carboxylic acids as well as aldehyde/ketone or α-nitrile amine were prepared at the cathode and anode respectively in a divided cell. Its utility and merits on simultaneously achieving high atom-economic CO2 utilization, elevated faradaic efficiency (total FE of up to 166%), and broad substrate scope were demonst...

Polyester fabric-based nano copper-polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes sorbent for thin film extraction of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
In this study, in-situ preparation of copper nanoparticles under sonoheating conditions followed by coating on commercial polyester fabric is reported. Through the self-assembly interaction of thiol groups and copper nanoparticles, the modified polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) was deposited on the fabric's surface. In the next step, radical thiol-ene click reactions were implemented to create more layers of POSSs. Subsequently, the modified fabric was applied for sorptive thin film extraction of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) including naproxen, ibuprofen, diclofenac, and mefenamic acid from uri...

Effect of biosolids amendment on the fate and mobility of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in a field-based lysimeter cell study
Environ Pollut. 2023 May 30:121939. doi: 10.1016/j.envpol.2023.121939. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNon-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used globally to treat and prevent illness. Biosolids change physico-chemical characteristics of soil and can affect the mobility of NSAIDs. A field-based lysimeter study evaluated the effect of three rates (0, 7, and 28 Mg ha-1) of alkaline treated biosolids (ATB) on the leaching potential of naproxen (NPX), ibuprofen (IBF), and ketoprofen (KTF) over 34 days in a sandy loam textured soil. Although all three NSAIDs in the lysimeter cells vertically migrated to deeper...
