Burden of Disease and Treatment Patterns Amongst Patients With Vitiligo: Findings From a National, Longitudinal Retrospective Study in the United Kingdom
Br J Dermatol. 2024 Mar 27:ljae133. doi: 10.1093/bjd/ljae133. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis retrospective study, using UK Clinical Practice Research Datalink and Hospital Episode Statistics databases, analysed 17,239 incident patients with vitiligo. Mean incidence of vitiligo was 0.16 (2010-2021) per 1000 person-years (range: 0.10 [2010-COVID] to 0.19 [2013/2018]); prevalence increased from 0.21% (2010) to 0.38% (2021). The most common comorbidities recorded after vitiligo diagnosis were diabetes (19.4%), eczema (8.9%), thyroid disease (7.5%), and rheumatoid arthritis (6.9%). Mental health diagnoses recorded at any ti...

Assessment of reliability and quality of YouTube ® exercise videos in people with rheumatoid arthritis
CONCLUSION: YouTube® exercise videos provide partially reliable and moderate-quality information for people with rheumatoid arthritis. However, patients should be cautious and not rely directly on YouTube® exercise videos. Instead, they should consult a physician or physical therapist for exercises.PMID:38536002 | DOI:10.1080/09593985.2024.2334753 (Source: Physiotherapy Theory and Practice)

Pharmacological and immunomodulatory modes of action of medically important phytochemicals against arthritis: A molecular insight
Mol Biol Rep. 2024 Mar 27;51(1):448. doi: 10.1007/s11033-024-09386-9.ABSTRACTArthritis is a common illness that affects joints and it may result in inflammation and pain. Even though arthritis usually affects older people, it can also affect children, adults, and both genders. Numerous arthritic mouse models have been developed but the CIA model of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has received the most attention. With the use of steroids, DMARDs, and NSAIDs, therapy objectives such as reduced disease incidence and better pain management are achieved. Long-term usage of these therapeutic approaches may have negative side effects. ...

An Elevated < em > IL10 < /em > mRNA Combined with Lower < em > TNFA < /em > mRNA Level in Active Rheumatoid Arthritis Peripheral Blood
In conclusion, our results showed that active disease is associated with an elevated IL10 and lower TNFA mRNA level in peripheral blood cells of RA patients.PMID:38534783 | PMC:PMC10969346 | DOI:10.3390/cimb46030167 (Source: Current Issues in Molecular Biology)

Dual Drug Nanoparticle Synergistically Induced Apoptosis, Suppressed Inflammation and Protected Autophagic Response in Rheumatoid Arthritis Fibroblast-like Synoviocytes
In this study, we assessed the therapeutic effectiveness of DD NP HG in primary RA-FLS cells isolated from the synovial tissue of FCA-induced RA rats. We observed that DD NP HG had good biosafety for healthy FLS cells and, at higher concentrations, a mild inhibitory effect on RA-FLS. The combination therapy (DD NP HG) of MTX NP and PEITC NE in RA-FLS showed a higher rate of apoptosis with significantly reduced LPS-induced expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-17A, and IL-6) in arthritic FLSs. Further, the gene expression studies showed that DD NP HG significantly down-regulated the mRNA expression of IL-1β,...

The changes of intestinal flora and its relevance with memory Tfh and B cells in rheumatoid arthritis patients treated with csDMARDs and csDMARDs  + bDMARDs
CONCLUSION: The gut microbiota, memory Tfh cells, memory B cells, and cytokines of patients with RA changed significantly under different treatment regimens and had certain correlations with the clinical indicators of RA.PMID:38537424 | DOI:10.1016/j.imbio.2024.152798 (Source: Immunobiology)

Prognostic modeling in early rheumatoid arthritis: reconsidering the predictive role of disease activity scores
CONCLUSION: In our study of mHAQ prediction in RA patients receiving treat-to-target therapy, patient-reported outcomes were most consistently predictive of function. Patients with high disease activity due predominantly to tenderness scores rather than swelling may benefit from less aggressive treatment escalation and an emphasis on non-pharmacological therapies, allowing for a more personalized approach to treatment. Key Points • Long-term use of the treat-to-target strategy in this patient cohort offers a unique opportunity to develop prognostic models for functional outcomes using extensive longitudinal data. • Pat...
