I am a confused human being
Dear all, I am a junior in college and have no idea what career to pursue. Ever since I was a child, I always told myself that I wanted to be a dentist for no reason whatsoever. Once I started college, I still felt the same. But now, as applications are only a few months away, I am starting to hesitate as an option to pursue a phd in chemistry is now underway. I am a chemistry major. I love chemistry. It's cool, makes sense to me. I am excelling in the field as well (currently, I have... I am a confused human being (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Hey all you people! Just taking a survey of those who applied to Maryland and were waitlisted. Just wanted to get a nice survey going that can help future applicants gauge the waitlist movement for future cycles. Just vote on if you're in state or out of state and comment in this thread whether you confirmed your spot on the waitlist or decided to pick another school. I personally reserved my waitlist spot and I'm in state! Happy waiting! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

GPR/AEGD vs Associate position
I am currently a D3 at a dental school in New York state. I am from out of state and do not plan on staying in new york so a PGY1 is not required. I also do not have family in dentistry and am planning on practicing away from my home town. The culture at my school seems to bias toward sending students into GPR/AEGD programs no matter if they are staying in NYS or not. I have recently started to think about finding and joining a practice right out of school instead of doing an AEGD/GPR. I am... GPR/AEGD vs Associate position (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Need help/Am I ignorant
View attachment 216232 View attachment 216233 First dentist said, I have great teeth other than a few cosmetic filling and a few fillings in my molars. He said one was a possible crown, but he could put a filling in and shape it. I received a full exam/xrays. When I came back for my cleaning a week later. I ask to talk to the dentist about which filling I should do first. A new dentist came in that I had never seen before and started probing my mouth. She came up with the second bill with... Practicing Dentists, would you go into dentistry if you were gonna be in debt for 500k plus?
For those unlucky enough who did not get military scholarship and get into their cheap instate public school experience debt upwards of 450-600k debt. Would you still do dentistry for that debt amount? Assuming you would not specialize and only do general dentistry. Why or why not? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Letters of Recommendation
I have read that the AADSAS only allows 4 letters of recommendation. I have shadowed 3 dentist in total, all of which I feel I've worked towards what would be a very strong and convincing letter of recommendation. My only concern is most schools requirement for 2 from a science professor. I have because of this obtained two letters from science professors and will obviously use both. But now my dilemma, how do I decide between the three dentists I've shadowed? They all attended my in-state... Letters of Recommendation (Source: Student Doctor Network)

starting off with higher magnification? (loupes)
Hey guys, I haven't posted in a while since life got super busy in dental school. I'm a D1 at NYUCD and we started operative dentistry in pre-clinic our first semester. This semester we are having practicals and so I decided it was a good idea to invest in good loupes. I bought orascoptic 4.5x HDL prisms even though a lot of my professors and classmates thought that going above 3.5x was excessive. They just came in a few days ago and when I tried them on for the first time there was an... starting off with higher magnification? (loupes) (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Dentists number 1 in student debt
Apparently new dentists are coming out with an average of $400,000 in student loans. I've read that the trend is towards more management company ownership of dental practices with the employed dentist receiving a lower salary. Considering the costs, is dentistry still something you would recommend to a person at the beginning of their career? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Starting to regret going into dental, give me better outlook.
I am halfway thru dental school and just wanted to share my opinion, if nothing else to let off some frustration, and perhaps help someone who could use another perspective if they're still debating. Personally I don't care if you agree/disagree or if my post sways someone to do dentistry or not, the few that might change their minds would be instantly replaced by one of the thousands that apply each year. What are you thoughts on Touro dental school?
Hello. I posted the same thread on the pre-dental forum, but I wanted hear what dental students think of the school as well. Touro is a pretty new school that, I think, has potential to produce well-rounded dentists. I am curious to know about the prospects of its long-term reputation as a dental school. Do you think I'd have easier/ harder time finding a job or residency against other more known dental school graduates? Thanks in advance. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

High dental loans how long to pay off typically?
Lots of loans now for new dental graduates can reach up to 400-600k worth of student loans on top of a fixed interest rate which would result in a high amount to just pay your interest fees!
