Plan B: "Pre-meds" with poor GPAs that gave up on medical field dreams, where are they now?
So after taking the time out to really think about it, I am done with the medical field for good so I am not considering DO, dental school, nursing school, or anything in health care profession anymore. Now the conventional advice on this forum for people in that situation tends to be: 1. Go postbacc and ace that. 2. Apply DO/grade replacement. 3. SMP if you really want that MD. Now the common advice tends to be, from some others, "FIND ANOTHER CAREER". I mean the amount of GPA repair you... Taking DAT after application submission?
Hey! So I'm taking my DAT on July 12th, but I want to get my application in as soon as possible (because it's rollinga admissions right?) Is there a disadvantage to sending my DATs in later? My letters are strong. My GPA could be better (3.4 overall and 3.1ish science). But I also studied at a fairly competitive school and I had a lot of family medical issues and mental health crises the year my GPA took a dive.. It's been on the up and up ever since that dip though. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

We NEED to respond ASAP - 60 days
The VA nursing handbook appears to be moving forward to MANDATE independent practice of all APRN's (including CRNAs) without supervision by a physician in the VA. We have 60 days to make public comments about why we disapprove of our veterans getting a lower standard of care. Recognize that as the government moves, others might as well in the future. This impacts all of us and requires a prompt response. Regardless of what you think of ASA, this requires a response from anyone that cares... Any Recommendations for Particular Programs?
Good morning all! Just wanted to reach out to the wealth of knowledge here, as I'm having a hard time finding prospective POIs for my second attempt at PhD applications. I am glad for the second round, as I've really developed more experience and specificity in my research goals. Nontrad seeking advice
I'm a current graduate student getting my Masters of Health Care Administration. I've decided to go to medical school (applying for 2018 entry). My uGPA was 3.37, but my science was around 3.1. My graduate GPA is 4.0, with about 48 hours so far, with about fifteen more to go. I know my uGPA is a little low, but I feel that having over 3000 hours of clinical experience (student athletic trainer during college) would help to offset it. I'm set to take my MCAT this August. Just wondering... Nontrad seeking advice (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Mental health writing pet peeve -- what's wrong with "I"?
Reading some notes from work, and what's up with MH professionals (usually not doctors but everyone else) using "this writer" all over the place instead of saying I. Are they taught that in school? Why is "I" such a bad thing to use. It's more active (and hence better) writing. Where the hell does this come from? It's especially common with LCSWs and NPs as far as I can determine. Benefits of Women's Health Tack

Hello Everyone, I have seen soooo many threads that address the turf war going on between doctoral level psychologists and master-level providers and was just wondering if anyone had any ideas they have to handle this problem going on in the mental health provider community? Embarrassing question
I'm a pre-pharmacy student and I get cold sores 1-2 a year. Are there any health policies that would restrict where I work in the future? Also, if I were working in retail, would I be allowed to work if I had a blister? It's very embarrassing to even ask this question, but it would be worse if I waited until after school to find out.
