PCOM Dean's Letter for Nontrads
FYI for those nontrads who may also have this problem. I contacted PCOM regarding flexibility in having an LOR from the dean, pre-health committee, or advisor, and three faculty letters including two from basic science profs and was told that these are hard requirements and there are no exceptions. My school had no pre-health committee, and I had no pre-med advisor. I also took my basic science classes 10 years ago, so it's near impossible to track those profs down and impossible to say... Most in demand surgical specialties for global health
I'm trying to decide between two specialties, cardiac (I6) and general surgery. Unfortunately, i pretty much have to choose since my country offers few cardiac fellowships, most cardiac surgery residencies are direct entry now. I have some interest in global health, i.e. doing some work in resource poor countries or just travelling and essentially learning from countries around the world one day. What are the most in demand surgeons in global health both civilian and military? My guess... Most in demand surgical specialties for global health (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Does GI bill force in-state tuition at OOS?
Medical junior enlisted army, getting out and not applying hpsp. I don't know if I'll be able to matriculate this year, still preparing my personal statement and everything but this is a question that has been on my mind. If I get into a OOS public DO school would the GI bill enable me to be treated as in-state for purposes of tuition, or does that rule not apply to medical/graduate schools. Thanks! So I haven't really done any volunteering or work in the LGBT community since 2012, but I was wondering if I should bring up being part of the LGBT community in the diversity essay in order to show that I have a strong understanding of the health issues and stigma faced. Hi Everyone, I recently decided to pursue an old dream of mine and work on applying to medical school. Now I'm trying to figure out a game plan to get me there. I've been working in a lab for the past year that has been breaching water like a mother. My PI (not tenure track, low ranking prof) came from industry, can't write a decent grant to get funding, and the lab is a mess.
