George Squared vs. Cornell Post Bacc
I recently got into both the George Mason Advanced Biomedical Certificate Program and the Cornell University/Division of Nutritional Sciences Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program in Health Studies. I've heard a lot of negative reviews on George Squared and not too much about the Cornell Program. Does anybody have advice? Or any past pre-dental gone to either of these schools? How do DO schools view applicants who previously attended another health professions program?
The thread title basically says it all. If an applicant previously attended another health professions program (e.g., something like PA school) but left after receiving an F grade (but wasn't formally dismissed), do they stand to have any realistic chance of receiving invitations to interview at any DO programs? GPAs would be > 3.4 cGPA, > 3.3 sGPA, so stats that are just "okay" (don't want to be too specific here). Since I wasn't formally dismissed and therefore wouldn't check the box that... Profession: If you did not choose healthcare
Hello. One of my secondary questions is along the lines of "if healthcare profession did not exist and we did not need healthcare providers, what would you pursue? I am seeking a little bit of advice on which of these to choose. My first inclination would be to be a counselor, specifically helping people who are battling addiction. My concern is that this would still be considered a healthcare profession. Reasoning being mental health/addiction as a disease. My next thought would be... Do Private Schools Really Provide Better Chance for Acceptance?
So I understand that everyone always tries to belabor the point that it is much more likely to get into a private school who takes many more OOS applicants. However, if you crunch the numbers on OOS applicants vs acceptances. They are nearly all 1 %. The public schools are usually 20 OOS matriculants for 2000 applicants whereas private takes 100 matriculants from 10000 applicants. Whats the difference? 1% is 1 % (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Can we, as mental health professionals. endorse clients' "right to commit suicide"?
I was reading an article today about clinical social workers and their attitudes towards suicide assessment. The authors noted that about 7% of their participants said that they felt that they couldn't tell or ask clients not to attempt suicide because they believed that it was their ethical obligation to respect their clients' autonomy and thus their right to kill themselves. To me, knowing or even strongly strongly suspecting that your client is suicidal and purposefully doing nothing... Can we, as mental health professionals. endorse clients' "right to commit suicide"? Making 100k as a pt
Hey guys! I don't want this to sound like all I care about is money but I was wondering if it is possible to make 100k as a pt. what I plan on doing is working in an outpatient clinic and then pick up some per diem hours in acute care or home health. I know that most outpatient jobs start around 70k but I'm just not sure how much extra money I would get from per diem job. Would an MPH and some interest in public health help much in landing more academic residencies?
Here are 2 possible scenarios: With MPH (in an MD MPH program): have credentials of a relevant masters degree, I'd probably need to demonstrate interest in public health through relevant extracurriculars in the rest of med school - the time spent here would prevent time on research relevant to the specialty of my interest, and a little more debt.
