A movement for movement: an exploratory study of primary healthcare professionals' perspectives on implementing the Royal College of General Practitioners' active practice charter initiative
CONCLUSION: This is the first evaluation of any nationwide UK-based initiative engaging GP practices in promoting PA. Acknowledging the limitations in response rate, although support exists for the RCGP APC, the evaluation highlights challenges to its implementation. Nonetheless, the wide reach of the RCGP, combined with the cited staff and patient benefits, demonstrates the significant potential of the APC initiative. Given the need to address physical inactivity nationally, further development the APC offers a possible solution, with further research required to overcome the challenges to implementation.PMID:38622556 | D...

A national training course for clinical trainers in family medicine
Afr J Prim Health Care Fam Med. 2024 Jan 4;16(1):e1-e3. doi: 10.4102/phcfm.v15i1.4341.ABSTRACTQuality vocational training is important to ensure that family physicians can strengthen the district health system. Competent clinical trainers and supervisors, with the necessary educational knowledge and skills, are required for this job. In 2014, a formal Train the Clinical Trainer (TCT) course was introduced in South Africa as a collaborative effort between the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) and the South African Academy of Family Physicians (SAAFPs). To make the training relevant, the course was aligned with t...

Development and validation of a clinical prediction model for 90-day venous thromboembolism risk following total hip and total knee arthroplasty: a multinational study
CONCLUSION: This clinical prediction model for 90-day VTE risk following THA and TKA performed well in both development and validation data. This model can be used to estimate an individual's risk for VTE following THA/TKA.PMID:38030547 | DOI:10.1016/j.jtha.2023.09.033 (Source: Thrombosis and Haemostasis)

Adverse events after first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccination in England: a national vaccine surveillance platform self-controlled case series study
CONCLUSIONS: COVID-19 vaccines are associated with a small decrease in the incidence of medically attended AEIs. Sentinel networks could routinely report common AEI rates, which could contribute to reporting vaccine safety.PMID:37921538 | DOI:10.1177/01410768231205430 (Source: J R Soc Med AND (has...)

Association of strong opioids and antibiotics prescribing with GP burnout: a retrospective cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: This study found higher rates of prescribing of strong opioids and antibiotics in practices with GPs with more burnout symptoms, greater job dissatisfaction, and turnover intentions; working longer hours; and in practices in the north of England serving more deprived populations.PMID:37500457 | DOI:10.3399/BJGP.2022.0394 (Source: The British Journal of General Practice)
