Genes, Vol. 15, Pages 448: Predictive Role of Cluster Bean (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba) Derived miRNAs in Human and Cattle Health
ishor Gaikwad MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding conserved molecules with lengths varying between 18-25nt. Plants miRNAs are very stable, and probably they might have been transferred across kingdoms via food intake. Such miRNAs are also called exogenous miRNAs, which regulate the gene expression in host organisms. The miRNAs present in the cluster bean, a drought tolerant legume crop having high commercial value, might have also played a regulatory role for the genes involved in nutrients synthesis or disease pathways in animals including humans due to dietary intake of plant parts of cluster beans. However, the ...

Visual Quantitative Sensory Testing Provides Transdiagnostic Window into Behavioral and Functional Neural Correlates of Nociplastic Pain
Multisensory hypersensitivity to painful and non-painful stimuli, including light, is common among individuals with nociplastic pain. However, as nociplastic pain is often superimposed upon nociceptive and neuropathic pain, we hypothesized that the degree of nociplastic pain would predict the amount of sensory hypersensitivity in many chronic pain states. To assess this hypothesis, the present study investigated associations between evoked visual sensitivity, brain activation patterns, and clinical outcomes in participants with fibromyalgia (FM,n=45) - the prototypical nociplastic pain condition - and osteoarthritis (OA,n=...

The Feasibility of Acupressure in Rheumatoid Arthritis
Although acupressure can be helpful in many chronic pain and fatigue states this treatment has never been explored in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In this open label pilot study, we assessed the feasibility of a 6-week acupressure treatment regimen in RA. Baseline characterization included PROMIS 29+2 and Fibromyalgia Survey Questionnaire (FSQ). Participants completed 6 weeks of daily self-applied acupressure treatments. Post-treatment, participants completed PROMIS 29+2, FSQ, tolerability, acupressure sensation, credibility, and patient global impression of change (PGIC) scales. (Source: The Journal of Pain)

Nociplastic Pain Predicts Disease Activity and Hyperalgesia of Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) affects> 1.3 million people in the United States. RA is a chronic (long-lasting) autoimmune disease that mostly affects joints. Nociplastic pain has been reported in all musculoskeletal pain disorders, including RA. However, it has been mostly associated with fibromyalgia (FM) which is a widespread pain syndrome associated with insomnia, fatigue, cognitive difficulties, and dysfunction. 30 RA were recruited from UF Rheumatology Clinics. Healthy Controls (HC) were recruited from the community by advertising. (Source: The Journal of Pain)

A Partial Toll-like Receptor 4 Agonist Attenuates Pain While Maintaining Immunosufficiency
Activation of Toll-like Receptor 4 (TLR4) from infection or tissue damage/stress is a contributing factor to many diseases including chronic pain. Many of these pain conditions are associated with chronically elevated inflammatory cytokine expression or autoimmune dysregulation (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn ’s disease). Current treatment includes biologics that target signaling pathways downstream of TLR4. These drugs reduce pain by reducing cytokine detection and function; many target TNF-alpha. Exploring Novel Therapeutic Targets in Inflammatory Pain: Insights from the CFA-Induced Paw Pain Model in Mice
In this study, mice were subjected to CFA-induced inflammation in the paw, mimicking aspects of rheumatoid arthritis, and subsequently assessed for behavioral (tactile and thermal allodynia) and biological (edema and inflammation assessment in paw samples) changes. (Source: The Journal of Pain)

The acute phase reactant orosomucoid-2 directly promotes rheumatoid inflammation
In conclusion, the acute phase protein ORM2 can directly increase the production of proinflammatory mediators and promote chronic arthritis in mice, suggesting that ORM2 could be a new therapeutic target for RA.PMID:38556552 | DOI:10.1038/s12276-024-01188-0 (Source: Molecular Medicine)

Serum netrin-1 levels are high in Rheumatoid arthritis associated interstitial lung disease
CONCLUSIONS: Netrin-1 is elevated in the serum of patients with RA-ILD, especially in the UIP pattern. Netrin-1 may be a potential candidate for predicting the development of RA-ILD that should be investigated in the pathophysiological and therapeutic fields.PMID:38556035 | DOI:10.1016/j.clinbiochem.2024.110760 (Source: Clinical Biochemistry)

Promoting physical activity in rheumatoid arthritis through a physiotherapist led behaviour change-based intervention (PIPPRA): a feasibility randomised trial
The objective of this study was to examine the feasibility of a physiotherapist led, behaviour change (BC) theory-informed, intervention to promote PA in people with RA who have low levels of current PA. A feasibility randomised trial (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT03644160) of people with RA over 18  years recruited from outpatient rheumatology clinics and classified as insufficiently physically active using the Godin−Shephard Leisure Time Physical Activity Questionnaire. Participants were randomised to intervention group (4 BC physiotherapy sessions in 8 weeks) delivered in person/virtuall y or control group (PA information ...

Breakthrough SARS-CoV-2 infection and disease flares in patients with rheumatoid arthritis: result from COVAD e-survey study
This study aimed to identify factors associated with breakthrough infection (BIs) and disease flares in patients with RA following COVID-19. We analysed data from RA patients who participated in the COVID-19 vaccination in autoimmune diseases (COVAD) study. Demographic data, patient-reported outcomes, comorbidities, pharmacologic treatment and details regarding disease flares were extracted from the COVAD database. Factors associated with disease flare-ups were determined by multivariate logistic regression analysis. The analysis comprised 1928 patients with RA who participated in the COVAD study. Younger age, Caucasian et...

Associations of gender with sexual functioning, loneliness, depression, fatigue and physical function amongst patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis with a particular focus on methotrexate usage
AbstractThere is a lack of knowledge regarding methotrexate (MTX) usage in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and its possible links with gender, disease characterization and sexual functioning, loneliness, fatigue and depression. We, therefore, investigated the associations of gender with physical function, fatigue, depression, loneliness and sexual functioning with a particular focus on MTX usage. A cross-sectional study design was used. Inclusion criteria were RA diagnosis, age above 18  years and available data on MTX treatment 1 year after diagnosis. Data consisted of responses from validated questionnaires reg...
