Heavy Metal Scavenger Metallothionein Rescues Against Cold Stress-Evoked Myocardial Contractile Anomalies Through Regulation of Mitophagy
Cardiovasc Toxicol. 2024 Feb 14. doi: 10.1007/s12012-023-09823-4. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCold stress prompts an increased prevalence of cardiovascular morbidity yet the underneath machinery remains unclear. Oxidative stress and autophagy appear to contribute to cold stress-induced cardiac anomalies. Our present study evaluated the effect of heavy metal antioxidant metallothionein on cold stress (4 °C)-induced in cardiac remodeling and contractile anomalies and cell signaling involved including regulation of autophagy and mitophagy. Cold stress (3 weeks) prompted interstitial fibrosis, mitochondrial damage (mitochon...

Potential mechanisms and drug prediction of Rheumatoid Arthritis and primary Sj ögren’s Syndrome: A public databases-based study
In conclusion, we identified commom targets as potential biomarkers in RA and pSS from publicly available databases and predicted potential drugs based on the targets. A new understanding of the molecular mechanisms associated with RA and pSS is provided according to the miRNA–gene network. (Source: PLoS One)

Successful avatrombopag combined with cyclosporine treatment for carboplatin/pegylated liposomal doxorubicin/bevacizumab-induced acquired amegakaryocytic thrombocytopenia in a patient with recurrent ovarian cancer: case report
We report, for the first time, the successful treatment using avatrombopag combined with cyclosporine in one case of carboplatin/pegylated liposomal doxorubicin/bevacizumab-induced acquired amegakaryocytic thrombocytopenia, which was refractory or intolerant to glucocorticoids, intravenous immunoglobulin, recombinant human thrombopoietin, androgen, and even thrombopoietin receptor receptor agonist eltrombopag and herombopag. To date, this case manifests as normal platelet counts that are independent of transfusion. Our findings suggest that this combination is a potential and valuable alternative in acquired amegakaryocyti...

Steroid-resistant minimal change nephrotic syndrome associated with thymoma treated effectively with rituximab following thymectomy and cyclosporine: a case report
Minimal change nephrotic syndrome (MCNS) can be complicated by thymoma; however, no standard therapy for thymoma-associated MCNS has yet been established. We herein describe a case of steroid-resistant MCNS as... (Source: BMC Nephrology)

Population pharmacokinetics of cyclosporine A in pediatric patients with thalassemia undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation
ConclusionIn the PPK model based on the pediatric cohort on CsA with thalassemia undergoing allogeneic HSCT, WT, POD, FLUC, VORI, POSA, and RBC were found to be the significant factors influencing CL of CsA. The reliability and robustness of the final model were excellent. It is expected that the PPK model can assist in individualizing dosing strategy clinically. CONCLUSIONS: Drug survival of cyclosporine in the BIOBADATOP registry is similar to that described in other series of patients with AD and longer than that observed in the BIOBADADERM psoriasis registry.PMID:38325545 | DOI:10.1016/j.ad.2023.07.028 (Source: Actas Dermo-Sifiliograficas)

Conjunctival and nasal microflora in patients on topical cyclosporine for dry eye
Conclusion: This study provides valuable insights into the impact of CsA eye drops on conjunctival and nasal flora in dry eye patients. The findings suggest that CsA does not significantly influence the composition, diversity, or antibiotic resistance patterns of ocular flora. Long-term topical cyclosporine treatment for dry eye does not significantly impact conjunctival microflora or lead to antibiotic resistance. These results have important implications for the safe use of CsA in patients undergoing ocular treatments, particularly those at risk of intraocular infections.PMID:38323796 | PMC:PMC10851765 | DOI:10.1177/0394...

Characteristics and prevalence of clinical remission of rheumatoid arthritis in a nationwide study from Indonesia
ConclusionThe remission rate of Indonesian RA patients is 24.5%, and low disease activity is 18.5%. Methotrexate and leflunomide are the most frequent conventional DMARDs used. Delayed diagnosis, delayed treatment, and DMARD monotherapy contributed to the current low remission rate in Indonesia. (Source: International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases)

Aplastic anemia: history and recent developments in diagnosis and treatment
Int J Hematol. 2024 Feb 4. doi: 10.1007/s12185-024-03715-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAcquired aplastic anemia is an immune-mediated disease that targets hematopoietic stem cells, which is diagnosed by findings of peripheral blood pancytopenia and hypocellular bone marrow. Although the diagnostic definition is simple, differential diagnosis from other overlapping hematopoietic disorders such as hypoplastic myelodysplastic syndrome and inherited bone marrow failure syndrome is not easy. Immune suppressive therapy and allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation are important treatment approaches for aplastic anemi...

A nomogram model for predicting the efficacy of cyclosporine in patients with pure red cell aplasia
This study aims to develop a predictive model for assessing the efficacy of cyclosporine in acquired PRCA (aPRCA). This retrospective study encompasses newly treated aPRCA patients at the General Hospital of Tianjin Medical University. Diagnosis criteria include severe anemia, and absolute reticulocyte count below 10  × 109/L, with normal white blood cell and platelet counts, and a severe reduction in bone marrow erythroblasts. Cyclosporine therapy was administered, with dose adjustments based on blood concentration. Response to cyclosporine was evaluated according to established criteria. Statistical analysis involve...
