Diagnostic Approach to Interstitial Lung Diseases Associated with Connective Tissue Diseases
Semin Respir Crit Care Med. 2024 Apr 17. doi: 10.1055/s-0044-1785674. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInterstitial lung disorders are a group of respiratory diseases characterized by interstitial compartment infiltration, varying degrees of infiltration, and fibrosis, with or without small airway involvement. Although some are idiopathic (e.g., idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, idiopathic interstitial pneumonias, and sarcoidosis), the great majority have an underlying etiology, such as systemic autoimmune rheumatic disease (SARD, also called Connective Tissue Diseases or CTD), inhalational exposure to organic matter, medication...

Radiographic Outcomes in Paediatric Bronchiectasis and Factors Associated with Reversibility
CONCLUSIONS: This first large cohort confirms bronchiectasis in children is often reversible with appropriate management. Younger aged children and those with lesser radiographic severity at diagnosis were most likely to achieve radiographic reversibility whilst those with PsA infection were least likely.PMID:38631023 | DOI:10.1164/rccm.202402-0411OC (Source: Respiratory Care)

Exploring Ribosomal Genes as Potential Biomarkers of the Immune Microenvironment in Respiratory Syncytial Virus Infection
This study aimed to identify genes associated with immune dysfunction using bioinformatics methods to gain insights into the role of dysregulated immune genes in RSV disease progression, and to predict potential therapeutic drugs by targeting dysregulated immune-related genes. 423 immune-related differential genes (DEIRGs) were filtered from the blood samples of 87 healthy individuals and 170 RSV patients. According to CIBERSORT analysis, the blood of RSV patients showed increased infiltration of various immune cells. Subsequently, ten immune-related hub genes were screened via Protein-Protein Interaction Networks. Six sig...

SARS-CoV-2 Infection Among Newborn Infants: A Scoping Review
Adv Neonatal Care. 2024 Apr 17. doi: 10.1097/ANC.0000000000001147. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection of mothers may increase the risk of complications and adverse birth outcomes among newborn infants born more than 37 weeks' gestation.PURPOSE: The aim of this scoping review is to identify the research gaps in the literature on SARS-CoV-2 positive newborn infants born at more than 37 weeks' gestation in United States (U.S.).DATA SOURCES: A search for relevant articles was conducted using multiple resources including three databases CINAHL, Ovid M...

Lactate Oxidation in Paracoccus denitrificans
We report proteomic, metabolomic, and biochemical studies that establish that the metabolism of lactate by P. denitrificans is mediated by two non-NAD-dependent lactate dehydrogenases. One prefers D-lactate over L-lactate (D-iLDH) and the other prefers L-lactate (L-iLDH). We cloned and produced the D-iLDH and characterized it. The Km for D-lactate was 34 μM, and for L-lactate it was 3.7 mM. Pyruvate was not a substrate, rendering the reaction unidirectional with lactate being converted to pyruvate for entry into the TCA cycle. The intracellular lactate was ∼14 mM such that both isomers could be metabolized by the enzyme...
