UNISON given go-ahead to join judicial review of government inaction over Windrush
UNISON has been given the go-ahead to join a legal challenge of former home secretary Suella Braverman’s decision to renege on three key recommendations made by the Windrush scandal inquiry.
In December, a High Court judge granted a private individual, Trevor Donald, permission to lodge a judicial review of Ms Braverman’s actions, in a hearing that is likely be heard some time between March and May this year.

Personal interest, enjoyable rotations, and favorable work hours are key factors in U.S. diagnostic radiology residents making their decision to pursue fellowship, a study published January 19 in Current Problems in Diagnostic Radiology.
Researchers led by Evan Hicks from the University of Arkansas also found that neuroradiology, musculoskeletal, and body imaging are the most popular specialties. However, they highlighted an increase in interest in breast radiology.

ACR names Smetherman CEO
The American College of Radiology (ACR) has named Dana Smetherman, MD, as its new CEO, effective July 1. She will become the ACR's first female CEO.
Smetherman will succeed William Thorwarth Jr., MD, who will retire June 30 after more than 10 years of service.
A diagnostic radiologist specializing in breast imaging, Smetherman is chair of the Department of Radiology and Associate Medical Director for Medical Specialties at the Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans. She is also a past member of the Ochsner Health System Board of Directors.

Researchers highlight opportunities for diagnostic radiology oral exam
The impending diagnostic radiology oral exam should be welcomed for aspiring radiologists, according to an article published January 5 in Academic Radiology.
A team led by Samantha Pfiffner from Wayne State University in Detroit wrote in its editorial that the oral exam, scheduled to start in 2028, will provide opportunities for a more comprehensive evaluation of radiologists.
“The authors of this manuscript commend the ABR for their tireless pursuit to improve radiology education and their comprehensive and inclusive approach to developing the new exam format,” the Pfiffner team wrote.
