UAMS NW vs OU
Hey, got accepted at two schools in places where I’ve got family. Both are similarly ranked schools and are similar situations for me. UAMS NW is in a better place for me to pursue outdoor activities. UAMS NW Pros: - family - rotate in hospitals without surgical residents, I get more hands on during those rotations (I’m interested in surgical residency) - small class size (20 per class in NW campus) - close to outdoor activities, which I want to stay engaged in during med school - in... FTC bans noncompete clauses
Any thoughts on this? I personally am excited for this because the thought of someone telling me I essentially can’t work in my home city or elsewhere because I left their employment is disgusting to me. I’m glad it’s happening before I graduate and finish residency since that will give time for litigation to sort all this out. I’m interested to see if there will be some pushback from hospitals pretending to be non-profits, but who may not want a closer look from the FTC... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Opinions on Tufts and BU Psychiatry residency program?
Looking for thoughts or opinions on these two programs. Don't know much about them, but I'm an interested third year hoping to apply to residency to them. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is a research year necessary to get into a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship?
I am nearly done with my PGY-2 year and I'm very interested in CT surgery. We have the option of a research year, but I am wondering if that's absolutely necessary to do to get a position in a CT surgery fellowship. I do have projects that I am working on within my program, so I will have publications/presentations by the time I finish residency. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Ponce St. Louis vs KCU
Hi everyone! First of all, I am very fortunate to have been accepted. However, I've been debating whether I should choose to attend the new MD school, Ponce Health Sciences St. Louis, or an established DO school, Kansas City University - KC campus. Although I have read through other posts where discussions about MD > DO due to residency program preferences were held, I am worried about the resources that the new school can provide and support me through four years. Also, I am from CA and... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Johns Hopkins ($0 Debt) vs WashU ($0 Debt) vs Duke (Will Have to Take out ~45k/Per Year in Loans)
As the 04/30 deadline approaches, I become increasingly torn between these three schools. I’m leaning more toward Hopkins, and I’ll explain why below. In terms of specialty I would like to pursue, I’m still undecided, but I feel like I want to look into internal medicine, emergency medicine, psychiatry, or anesthesiology. Throughout medical school, residency, and my physician career, I want to be able to have a good amount of time to spend with my aging parents and my loved ones. For me... Northwestern (Feinberg) vs UChicago (Pritzker)
Really tough spot for me right now. Biggest factor right now is that FSM offered me 75% tuition (less than any other offer I have been given; Mayo -- Full tuition (50 merit/ 50 need); Case Western -- 78% tuition; UChicago -- Full tuition, negotiating for stipend). Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine: Pros: Great location (~10 min from my condo) Know a lot of incoming students Good vibe ECMH Prosected anatomy lab Better hospital system/residency programs (if I... SUNY Upstate vs SUNY Downstate
I'm sure this has been done before, and they're two very different schools. For context, I would love to be in NYC not just for med school but for residency and beyond. So I have been leaning Downstate for some time. But with the hospital closure, and other things I've seen online, I'm having a hard time deciding! Similar FA/tuition although NYC COL is obviously much higher than Syracuse/CNY. SUNY Upstate Pros Year 2 of a new curriculum that appears to have some really great... HPSP For Competitive Specialities
Just to give some background, I'm currently a third year pre-med applying this cycle. I made a spreadsheet of potential expenses and tuition and compounding interest and now I'm terrified. Not doing this purely for the money, but more for the ease of mind that I can start maxing my 401k when residency starts rather than being 401k in debt (I'm sorry) and being able to have a family earlier and stuff without taking more loans. My parents and grandparents might be able to contribute to my med... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

OB/Gyn Fellowships Question
Hello! I’m currently a medical student and really love women’s health and OB/Gyn, but the one thing that is holding me back from committing to the specialty currently is the lifestyle post-residency of a generalist. I understand that MIGS, urogyn, REI, and MFM subspecialties have a relatively great lifestyle in attendinghood. However I was curious about what the lifestyle is like during fellowship for these. Are hours reasonable during the fellowships too? I think I can get through a tough 4... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

DMU vs. NSU-KPCOM
DMU-COM Pros Reputation for a really great DO program (to my understanding) Lower COL in comparison Impressive 2024 match list Grew up in the Midwest, more familiar with climate Cons Climate (I don't like the cold lol) I don't think pre-clinical years are P/F? NSU-KPCOM Pros NSU offers an MD and DO program- I imagine there's a lot of crossover with faculty and may help if you want to take COMLEX and Step for competitive residencies... How long (realistically) can you wait to apply for a fellowship?
Hi all! I am interested in applying for OB/GYN and I am also interested in applying for a maternal-fetal medicine fellowship once I complete residency. When looking at the different scholarships to pay for schools, I am really interested in doing a service scholarship and per the terms of the scholarship, if I were to specialize in MFM, I would not be eligible for the scholarship. In an effort to have the best of both worlds, are we able to wait a few years to apply for a fellowship or is it... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I'm Applying for my NY Medical Licensey. I did receive a 'Written Reprimand' at the end of my PGY1 year.. Do I have to report it?
So I received a 'written reprimand' by my Program director at my 1st residency program where I finished my PGY-1 year. Since then as I am towards the end of my PGY3 year, I had no issues. But there are some questions I need to answer on the FSMB website: were you ever disciplined or placed under investigation? were any negative reports for behavioral reasons? I mean yes I did receive a written reprimand for 'unprofessional behavior,' but I dispute what was said of me. Apparently my... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

U of Kansas Med vs MCW-Milwaukee
To give some background: I live in Chicago, but my family is from Wisconsin, and my sister and mom work in Milwaukee. My significant other is from a Kansas City suburb and my college best friend is an M1 at KU Med. I am very fortunate that CoA is not a major factor in my decision making. I am interested in Ophthalmology, General Surgery, or Internal Medicine, and I would love to move out to the West Coast for residency to follow family. **University of Kansas School of Medicine** PROS •...
