Outcomes for maximal bilateral lateral rectus recession in large-angle exotropia
Surgical treatment for large-angle exotropia can be challenging. The aim of this study was to evaluate short-term surgical outcomes of patients with large-angle exotropia ( ≥50Δ) undergoing maximal bilateral lateral rectus muscle recession of 10 mm. (Source: Journal of AAPOS)

Refractive Changes After Horizontal Strabismus Surgery
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with high refractive error who undergo horizontal strabismus correction will experience myopic shift. Patients who undergo rectus recession surgery should be fully informed of the possibility of changes in astigmatism preoperatively. For patients who undergo horizontal rectus recession combined with horizontal rectus resection, it is not recommended that glasses be changed within 1 month after surgery.PMID:38223914 | DOI:10.1080/02713683.2024.2302543 (Source: Current Eye Research)

Oral manifestation as the only sign of Langerhans cell histiocytosis: A case report
Key Clinical MessageThe manifestations of Langerhans cell histiocytosis can be limited in the oral cavity, including gingival recession, tooth mobility, and bone destruction. Dentists play a crucial role in the early detection and management of these oral symptoms, which can significantly impact the overall prognosis and quality of life for patients with this serious disease.AbstractThe hyperplastic activity of bone marrow can lead to excessive histocyte proliferation, called Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH). Based on the accumulation location, it has various organ involvement, including skin, bone, and so forth. Oral m...

Evaluation of advanced platelet-rich fibrin compared to subepithelial connective tissue graft in the surgical management of interdental papilla recession: a randomized controlled trial
ConclusionBoth CTG and A-PRF were found to be equally effective in increasing deficient IDP height with Han and Takei ’s surgical technique, with no significant difference. Within the current study’s limitations, A-PRF seems to be a viable alternative to CTG in the treatment of GBTs.Clinical relevanceMultilayered A-PRF membrane can be used as a choice in the augmentation of receded papillae, using Han and Takei ’s technique. The Apical Tooth Replantation with Surgical Intrusion Technique (ATR-SIT) for Regenerative Treatment of Hopeless Teeth: A Report of Two Cases
Int J Periodontics Restorative Dent. 2024 Jan 10;0(0):1-27. doi: 10.11607/prd.6932. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe aim of the present clinical report is to introduce a novel surgical procedure, the "Apical Tooth Replantation with Surgical Intrusion Technique" (ATR-SIT) for managing teeth with hopeless prognosis compromised with a severe endodontal-periodontal lesion, pathologic tooth migration, and gingival recession. Two cases are presented managing teeth diagnosed with a hopeless prognosis. ATR-SIT involves tooth extraction, extra-oral root debridement, root surface conditioning, apicectomy, retrograde filling and the...

Entire Papilla Preservation Technique with Recombinant Human Fibroblast Growth Factor-2 and Autogenous Bone Grafting in the Treatment of Isolated Non-Contained Intrabony Defect: Case Report of a 5-Year Follow-Up
Int J Periodontics Restorative Dent. 2024 Jan 10;0(0):1-16. doi: 10.11607/prd.7038. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRegenerative periodontal surgery is an effective procedure for the treatment of intrabony defects. Various flap designs preserving the defect-associated interdental papilla have been proposed to improve early wound stability. This case report describes the long-term results of a regenerative treatment in severely compromised mandibular canine using entire papilla preservation technique. Surgical access was provided by a single buccal vertical incision without any papilla incision. Combination of autogenous bone...

Machine Learning Supported the Modified Gustafson ’s Criteria for Dental Age Estimation in Southwest China
In this study, we aimed to develop and evaluate machine learning (ML) methods based on the modified Gustafson ’s criteria for dental age estimation. In this retrospective study, a total of 851 orthopantomograms were collected from patients aged 15 to 40 years old. The secondary dentin formation (SE), periodontal recession (PE), and attrition (AT) of four mandibular premolars were analyzed according to th e modified Gustafson’s criteria. Ten ML models were generated and compared for age estimation. The partial least squares regressor outperformed other models in males with a mean absolute error (MAE) of 4.151 years. T...

Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Bone Grafting in Alveolar Ridge Augmentation Using the Two-Stage Splitting Technique
Stimulation of neoosteogenesis is the main mechanism of osseointegration during installation of dental implants, bone tissue recession, and alveolar process augmentation in adentia. In experiments on miniature pigs, we used the technology of two-stage splitting of the ridge of the alveolar process of the mandible in combination with a xenograft that was placed between the fragments of the split bone plate. The morphology of the reparative process and the distribution of osteogenic differentiation markers in the compact and trabecular bone of the alveolar crest were studied. Signs of reparative osteogenesis were observed in...

Effect of adjuvant probiotic therapy (Lactobacillus reuteri) in the treatment of periodontitis associated with diabetes mellitus: clinical, controlled, and randomized study
ConclusionSubgingival instrumentation improved the clinical periodontal parameters in patients with T2DM. The use ofL. reuteri probiotics had no additional effects compared with the placebo; however, there was a positive effect on the lipoprotein subfraction.Clinical relevanceScientific rationale for study: subgingival instrumentation with probiotics may be a proposal for the treatment of periodontitis (P), especially for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Principal findings: the use ofL. reuteri probiotics had no additional effects compared with the placebo; however, there was a positive effect on the lipoprot...

Appraising and comparing the role of autogenous periosteal graft as a barrier membrane in the treatment of intrabony defects in chronic periodontitis cases: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Int J Med Sci. 2024 Jan 1;21(2):253-264. doi: 10.7150/ijms.86720. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTPeriodontal regeneration refers to procedures aimed at restitution of lost supporting tissue around the periodontally compromised tooth. Regenerative procedures very often include the use of barrier materials to encourage the growth of key surrounding tissues. The current study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of autogenous periosteal graft as a barrier membrane for the treatment of intrabony defects in chronic periodontitis patients. A total of four data bases MEDLINE (by PubMed), Cochrane database, EBSCO, and Google Scholar were...
