Failed Research Project Impact on Future
Currently working on an industry funded research project (sample collection from patients with a rare disease) and just had a concerning meeting with my PI. For background, I was put in charge of the project (which was brand new itself ) right out of undergrad with no clinical research experience. There were a lot of growing pains for the first few months and I fully accept I made some mistakes. During this meeting, my PI yelled at me as we are lagging behind the projected enrollment... Clinical relevance of med school biochem
i have a biochem exam tomorrow on metabolism and pathways and enzymes. I find we learn very rare diseases as well as very small details regarding Enzymes and regulation. To me it seems like this block is more relevant for Step 1 (some slides even point out that it’s a rare disorder but it appears on step). So I get the whole having to learn it for step and I’ve taken this block seriously, but how relevant will this be in 3rd year and beyond as a practicing physician? I can appreciate some... Which medical specialty is, according to you, the most routine free?
I mean where you are the most likely to not fall into a repetitive process. It can be surgical or non-surgical it doesn't matter. I mean just that. I know there are rare diseases in every speciality and common diseases in every speciality so I would have to see some repetitive patients. The real question is where it is a least common. Just dost say Emergency medicine. That's... Which medical specialty is, according to you, the most routine free? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Should I stay in this research project?
Basically the research project I'm participating is sponsored by pharma and is for some kind of rare disease (we see less than 10 patients per year that have this condition). My role basically consist of clerical work in this moment (ex: IRB, documents, forms, etc.). Is this even considered clinical research by adcoms? Should I stay (suggest something please) or go and find another research project? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Challenge I faced?
Hi all, I'm looking over secondary prompts, and a common one asks about a challenge I overcame. I have a few related to lab/research experience, but I was thinking about using a more personal one. Specifically, I lived with my grandparents and my aunt for one year of college. My grandma had a rare disease, and this was the last year of her life. I think this experience was challenging because my grandpa wasn't physically able to take care of my grandma, and my aunt was borderline abusive to... Challenge I faced? Crowdfunding for Cystic Fibrosis and Other Pediatric Rare Diseases Research Projects
Hi Everyone, I represent a small pharmaceutical company located in Barcelona, Spain, called SOM Biotech. We are a very young company dedicated to drug repostioning. Drug repositioning is the process of applying therapeutics, which already exist, towards new diseases. In our case, we are focused on drug repositioning for rare diseases. At the very present we are running a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds to start new scientific research projects in 5 pediatric rare diseases (diseases which affect a small portion of children worldwide). Cystic fibrosis is one of the projects included in our new initiative, which we ar...
