Thoracic Proton Minibeam Radiation Therapy: Tissue Preservation and Survival Advantage over Conventional Proton Therapy.
This study assesses the potential advantages of pMBRT for thoracic irradiations compared to conventional radiotherapy in terms of normal tissue toxicity. The challenge here was the influence of respiratory motion on the typical peak and valley dose patterns of pMBRT and its potential biological impact. Diagnostic magnetic resonance imaging characteristics of congenital mesoblastic nephroma: a retrospective multi-center International Society of Pediatric Oncology-Renal Tumor Study Group (SIOP-RTSG) radiology panel study
ConclusionThis retrospective international collaborative study showed classic type congenital mesoblastic nephroma predominantly presented as a homogeneous T2-weighted isointense mass with a typical concentric ring sign, whereas the cellular type appeared more heterogeneous. Future studies may use identified MRI  characteristic of congenital mesoblastic nephroma for validation and for exploring the discriminative non-invasive value of MRI, especially from Wilms tumor.Graphical Abstract (Source: Pediatric Radiology)

Mapping brain volume change across time in primary-progressive multiple sclerosis
ConclusionsConstructing age- and gender-related brain volume maps enabled identifying PPMS patients at a higher risk of brain volume loss. Monitoring these high-risk patients may lead to better treatment decisions and improve patient outcomes. (Source: Neuroradiology)

Evolution in Liver trauma management: A single centre experience
CONCLUSIONSAlthough the role of surgery in liver trauma management has strongly diminished over recent decades, hemodynamically unstable patients, high-grade lesions, penetrating trauma and severe associated lesions are the main indications for surgery. In other situations, NOM by full conservative therapy or radiological embolisation seems effective.PMID:38607666 | DOI:10.1080/00015458.2024.2342132 (Source: Acta Chirurgica Belgica)

Detection of the Highest-Grade Lesion in Multifocal Discordant Prostate Cancer by Multiparametric Magnetic Resonance Imaging
CONCLUSION: We found that mpMRI detectability of the highest-grade tumor in discordant cases was inferior to that of the largest tumor with low malignant potential. Our results suggest that the risk of high-grade tumors which determine patient prognosis being overlooked.PMID:38608334 | DOI:10.1016/j.clgc.2024.102084 (Source: Clinical Prostate Cancer)

Identification and classification of pulp calcifications in posterior teeth according to dental condition using digital panoramic radiography and cone beam computed tomography
CONCLUSION: DPR considerably overestimates pulp calcifications in posterior teeth, as compared to CBCT. A higher prevalence of pulp calcifications is related to decayed and restored teeth.PMID:38608191 | DOI:10.1093/dmfr/twae015 (Source: Dentomaxillofacial Radiology)

A user-friendly deep learning application for accurate lung cancer diagnosis
CONCLUSIONS: The model provided means for storing and updating patients' data directly on the interface which allowed the results to be readily available for the health care providers. The developed system will improve clinical communication and information exchange. Moreover, it can manage efforts by generating correlated and coherent summaries of cancer diagnoses.PMID:38607727 | DOI:10.3233/XST-230255 (Source: Journal of X-Ray Science and Technology)

Predicting patient-specific organ doses from thoracic CT examinations using support vector regression algorithm
CONCLUSIONS: By combined utilization of the SVR algorithm and thoracic radiomics features, patient-specific thoracic organ doses could be predicted accurately, fast, and robustly in one second even using one single CPU core.PMID:38607729 | DOI:10.3233/XST-240015 (Source: Journal of X-Ray Science and Technology)

DDA-SSNets: Dual decoder attention-based semantic segmentation networks for COVID-19 infection segmentation and classification using chest X-Ray images
CONCLUSIONS: The results show that the proposed DDA-SegNet has superior performance in the segmentation of lung lobes and COVID-19-infected regions in CXRs, along with improved severity grading compared to the DDA-UNet and improved accuracy of the GADCNet classifier in classifying the CXRs into COVID-19, and non-COVID-19.PMID:38607728 | DOI:10.3233/XST-230421 (Source: Journal of X-Ray Science and Technology)

Feasibility of an MR-based digital specimen for tongue cancer resection specimens: a novel approach for margin evaluation
CONCLUSION: This proof of concept for volumetric assessment of resection margins using MR-DSs, demonstrates promising potential for further development. Overall, sensitivity is higher than specificity for inadequate margin detection, because of the radiologist's tendency to overestimate tumor size.PMID:38606095 | PMC:PMC11007136 | DOI:10.3389/fonc.2024.1342857 (Source: Cancer Control)

Does MRI Have a Role in the Preoperative Staging of Penile Cancer?
Conclusions The use of MRI as a preoperative modality for staging penile cancer performs best for identifying tumour involvement of the cavernosal bodies. Performing the MRI with the penis erect with the use of an intra-cavernosal injection did not offer any additional benefit in accurately staging penile cancer.PMID:38606225 | PMC:PMC11008335 | DOI:10.7759/cureus.56016 (Source: Cancer Control)
