Vein of Galen aneurysmal malformation: does size affect outcome?
ConclusionsSemiautomated VGAM volumetry is feasible and reliable with improved reproducibility compared to the manual method. VGAM volume is not a prognostic factor for clinical outcome, but it is related to other venous findings with potential hemodynamic effects. (Source: Neuroradiology)

Assessment of drainage vein of focal nodular hyperplasia using contrast-enhanced ultrasound
ConclusionOur study showed that rapid FNH drainage to the hepatic vein was observed at a relatively high rate on CEUS, suggesting that CEUS focusing on detection of drainage veins is important for diagnosing FNH. (Source: Journal of Medical Ultrasonics)

Cardiovascular Education in the Digital Age
AbstractPurpose of ReviewMedical education has evolved remarkably during the last decade whereby the conventional large lecture halls, long didactic presentations, and textbooks have been replaced by smaller groups with a mentor –mentee pairing coupled with technological advances that permit a more intimate and yet comprehensive learning experience. The purpose of this review is to summarize the novel models of education and serve as a reference for educators.Recent FindingsIn the wake of a global pandemic, coronavirus-19 infection, higher education replaced conventional lecture hall formats with novel methods that are n...

First in human Phase I Clinical Trial of Stereotactic Irradiation to Achieve Lung Volume Reduction (SILVR) in Severe Emphysema
Only a subset of patients with severe emphysema qualify for lung volume reduction surgery or endobronchial valves. We previously demonstrated that Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy (SABR) of lung tumors reduces lung volume in treated lobes by creating localized lung fibrosis. We aimed to determine the safety and, secondarily, explore the efficacy of Stereotactic Irradiation for Lung Volume Reduction (SILVR) over 18 months following intervention in patients with severe emphysema. **** commentary: FIGO staging of endometrial cancer 2023 update - implications for imaging
The FIGO staging of endometrial cancer (EC) was updated in 2023. This includes updated anatomical information about the tumour (including classifying myometrial invasion into none, superficial and deep and the concept of subserosal invasion) and incorporates histological and molecular features of the tumour into the staging system. This update will profoundly change assessment and management of EC, with a welcome move to personalised care and targeted treatment according to tumour type and prognosis. Comparison of conventional diffusion-weighted imaging, diffusion kurtosis imaging and intravoxel incoherent motion in characterization of sonographically indeterminate adnexal masses
ConclusionThe mean ADC, Dapp, and Kapp are useful parameters in discriminating between benign and malignant adnexal masses. Dt derived from IVIM also helps in distinguishing benign and malignant adnexal masses; however, no incremental role of IVIM and DKI over ADC could be identified in our study.Graphical abstract (Source: Abdominal Imaging)

Radiological evaluation before and after treatment with an osseointegrated bone-anchor following major limb amputation —a guide for radiologists
This article acts as a guide for radiologists who may be tasked with providing the radiological information required by surgeons and prosthetists. We also look at the radiological appearances of complications that may arise in patients treated with an osseointegrated implant. Plain X-rays are used to screen patients who wish to undergo treatment. Limb-length X-rays are then used to measure the length of any residual bone, and comparisons can be made with the normal side (if present). From this, decisions about the likely size of the implant and the need for further amputation can be made. CT scans enable accurate assessmen...

Breast Ultrasound Tumor Classification Using a Hybrid Multitask CNN-Transformer Network
In this study, we proposed a hybrid multitask deep neural network called Hybrid-MT-ESTAN, designed to perform BUS tumor classification and segmentation using a hybrid architecture composed of CNNs and Swin Transformer components. The proposed approach was compared to nine BUS classification methods and evaluated using seven quantitative metrics on a dataset of 3,320 BUS images. The results indicate that Hybrid-MT-ESTAN achieved the highest accuracy, sensitivity, and F1 score of 82.7%, 86.4%, and 86.0%, respectively.PMID:38601088 | PMC:PMC11006090 | DOI:10.1007/978-3-031-43901-8_33 (Source: MICCAI International Conference o...
