Lonidamine Induced Selective Acidification and De-Energization of Prostate Cancer Xenografts: Enhanced Tumor Response to Radiation Therapy
Cancers (Basel). 2024 Mar 31;16(7):1384. doi: 10.3390/cancers16071384.ABSTRACTProstate cancer is a multi-focal disease that can be treated using surgery, radiation, androgen deprivation, and chemotherapy, depending on its presentation. Standard dose-escalated radiation therapy (RT) in the range of 70-80 Gray (GY) is a standard treatment option for prostate cancer. It could be used at different phases of the disease (e.g., as the only primary treatment when the cancer is confined to the prostate gland, combined with other therapies, or as an adjuvant treatment after surgery). Unfortunately, RT for prostate cancer is associa...

Accurate gamma-ray dose measurement up to 10  MeV by glass dosimeter with a sensitivity control filter for BNCT
In conclusion, the results of the standard sources showed the feasibility of this method, however for the volume source the dependence of the gamma-ray incident angle on the dosimeter was found to be not neglected. In the next step, it will be necessary to design a thinner filter in order to suppress the effect of the incident angle.PMID:38613949 | DOI:10.1016/j.apradiso.2024.111299 (Source: Applied Radiation and Isotopes)

Prospective trial of Functional Lung Avoidance Radiation Therapy for Lung Cancer: Quality of Life Report
CONCLUSION: The current work provides an innovative combination of functional avoidance and PROs and is the first report of PROs for patients treated with prospective 4DCT-ventilation functional avoidance. Approximately 30% of patients had clinically significant decline in PROs at 12 months. The study provides additional data on outcomes with 4DCT-ventilation functional avoidance.PMID:38614278 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijrobp.2024.03.046 (Source: Health Physics)

Diagnostic CT-Enabled Planning (DART): Results of a Randomized Trial in Palliative Radiation Therapy
CONCLUSION: dCT-based radiation planning substantially reduced TIC without detriment in plan deliverability or quality and had a tangible impact on patient experience with reduced patient-reported time burden.PMID:38613562 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijrobp.2024.03.005 (Source: Health Physics)

Postoperative radiotherapy results in 192 epithelial thymic tumours patients with 10  years of follow-up
CONCLUSION: Approximately one-third of the TET in our study experienced a LRR, mainly to the pleura, and 8% in total were in-field. The place of radiotherapy should be better defined in higher risk thymoma patients within prospective randomized studies.PMID:38614283 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2024.110272 (Source: Radiotherapy and Oncology : journal of the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology)

The effect of physical therapy and mechanical stimulation on dysfunction of lower extremities after total pelvic exenteration in cervical carcinoma patient with rectovesicovaginal fistula induced by radiotherapy: a case report
ConclusionStandardized physical therapy demonstrates the effect on postoperative complications after total pelvic exenteration and pelvic lymphadenectomy. This supports the necessity of multidisciplinary cooperation and early physiotherapy intervention. Further research is needed to determine the causes of thrombosis after standardized intervention, and more randomized controlled trials are needed to investigate the efficacy of physical therapy after total pelvic exenteration. Thoracic Proton Minibeam Radiation Therapy: Tissue Preservation and Survival Advantage over Conventional Proton Therapy.
This study assesses the potential advantages of pMBRT for thoracic irradiations compared to conventional radiotherapy in terms of normal tissue toxicity. The challenge here was the influence of respiratory motion on the typical peak and valley dose patterns of pMBRT and its potential biological impact. Impact of radiation therapy modalities on loco-regional control in inflammatory breast cancer
In inflammatory breast cancer (IBC), radiotherapy intensification is considered a standard of care by some teams, although the level of evidence remains low. We sought to analyze the impact of radiotherapy modalities on the risk of loco-regional and distant relapse. (Source: International Journal of Radiation Oncology * Biology * Physics)
