Conditional survival analysis and real-time prognosis prediction in stage III T3 –T4 colon cancer patients after surgical resection: a SEER database analysis
ConclusionsOur study developed nomograms and predictive models for postoperative stage III survival in T3 –T4 colon cancer with the aim of accurately estimating conditional survival. Survival bias in our analyses may lead to overestimation of survival outcomes, which may limit the applicability of our findings. (Source: International Journal of Colorectal Disease)

Hormone replacement therapy in women with iatrogenic premature ovarian insufficiency after radiotherapy for cervical cancer: A retrospective cohort and survey study
According to a GLOBOCAN summary of 185 countries in 2020, there were 604,127 cases of cervical cancer worldwide and 341,831 deaths. The majority of affected women are younger than 50  years of age at diagnosis [1]. As the average age of onset of natural menopause is 51 [2], most women diagnosed and treated for cervical cancer are premenopausal at the time of diagnosis. The treatment options for cervical cancer include surgery and/or (chemo)radiation therapy, depending on the s tage of the disease [3,4]. (Source: Maturitas)

The impact of advancing the standard of care in radiotherapy on operational treatment resources
CONCLUSION: The clinical implementation of hypofractionated treatment regimens has successfully reduced the radiotherapy workload and operational treatment hours required to treat patients. An assessment of the association between patient characteristics and timely lung cancer treatment
ConclusionsWithin a Medicare Advantage population, patient demographics were found to be significantly associated with the decision to pursue surgery, but factors other than stage were not significantly associated with time to non-systemic treatment. (Source: Cancer Causes and Control)

Aggressive variant prostate cancer with multiple subcutaneous metastases: a case report
AbstractA 71-year-old man with bone metastasis of hormone-sensitive prostate cancer was treated with androgen deprivation therapy and apalutamide. Radium-223 and radiation therapy were administered after it become castration resistant. Although prostate-specific antigen levels remained low, multiple subcutaneous metastases of neuroendocrine prostate cancer were observed. A review of the pre-treatment prostate needle biopsy revealed a small component with features suggestive of neuroendocrine differentiation. Phosphatase and tensine homolog loss and tumor protein p53 overexpression were observed, confirming the diagnosis of...

Intracranial malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor: A case report and comprehensive literature review
CONCLUSION: MPNSTs comprise a group of highly aggressive neoplasms that rarely arise intracranially. Gross total surgical resection should be pursued when feasible.PMID:38628513 | PMC:PMC11021080 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_931_2023 (Source: Surgical Neurology International)

Combination therapy involving HSP90 inhibitors for combating cancer: an overview of clinical and preclinical progress
Arch Pharm Res. 2024 Apr 17. doi: 10.1007/s12272-024-01494-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe molecular chaperone heat shock protein 90 (HSP90) regulates multiple crucial signalling pathways in cancer by driving the maturation of key signalling components, thereby playing a crucial role in tumorigenesis and drug resistance in cancer. Inhibition of HSP90 results in metastable conformational collapse of its client proteins and their proteasomal degradation. Considerable efforts have been devoted to the development of small-molecule inhibitors targeting HSP90, and more than 20 inhibitors have been evaluated in clinical tria...

Incorporating functional lung imaging (FLI) into radiation therapy planning in patients with lung cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: FLI shows promise as a method to spare FL during thoracic RT, but interventional trials related to FL avoidance planning are sparse. Such trials are critical to understanding the impact of FL avoidance planning on toxicity reduction and patient outcomes.PMID:38631538 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijrobp.2024.04.001 (Source: Health Physics)
