Combining high intensity ultrasound and experimental design to improve carotenoid extraction efficiency from Buriti (Mauritia flexuosa)
Ultrason Sonochem. 2022 Jun 21;88:106076. doi: 10.1016/j.ultsonch.2022.106076. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBuriti (Mauritia flexuosa L.) is a significant source of carotenoids, but these compounds have been extracted using laborious and low-effective methods. The present work evaluated the high-intensity ultrasound combined with a chemometric approach to developing an optimal extraction method of carotenoids from buriti pulp. The multivariate optimization was carried out through two steps. First, a simplex-lattice mixture design was used to optimize the extractor solution finding higher extraction yield (903 ± 21 µg g-...

Perspectives of pumpkin pulp and pumpkin shell and seeds uses as ingredients in food formulation
Ruby-Alejandra Villamil, Natalia Escobar, Laura Natalia Romero, Ribka Huesa, Anny Valentina Plazas, Carina Gutiérrez, Gloria Elizabeth Robelto Nutrition & Food Science, Vol. ahead-of-print, No. ahead-of-print, pp.- This paper aims to study the use of pumpkin pulp and its by-products in food formulation. Pumpkins are important and useful in the food industry. However, only the pulp is used, and the shell and seeds are wasted, which represents an important food waste. A systematic review was performed by searching electronic databases relating to the physicochemical, textural and sensor...

< em > L. Cucurbita pepo < /em > modulates contact dermatitis in depressed rats through downregulation of proinflammatory cytokines and upregulation of antioxidant status
CONCLUSIONS: The pumpkin extract, applied topically in CD associated with depression, could be an alternative as well as preventive approach in treating CD. Anti-inflammatory and antioxidants activity of pumpkin is a proposed mechanism behind this effect. Further studies to test this effect on volunteer patients of CD are recommended.PMID:35645683 | PMC:PMC9131963 | DOI:10.5114/ada.2021.103459 (Source: Advances in Dermatology and Allergology)
