Sensors, Vol. 24, Pages 143: The Influence of External Parameters on the Ripeness of Pumpkins
The objective of this study was to determine the optimal placement of sensors to determine the influence of external parameters on the maturity of pumpkins. The greenhouse used in the study consisted of a plastic film for growing pumpkins. Five different sensors labeled from A1 to A5 measured the air temperature, humidity, soil temperature, soil humidity, and illumination at five different locations. We used two methods, error-based sensor placement and entropy-based sensor placement, to evaluate optimisation. We selected A3 sensor locations where the monitored data were close to the reference value, i.e., the average data...

Oriented Self ‐assembly of Flexible MOFs Nanocrystals into Anisotropic Superstructures with Homogeneous Hydrogels Behaviors
Oriented construction of nanocrystals into MOFs anisotropic superstructure is achieved by molecular self-assembly strategy. Confined interaction between flexible building blocks and hydrogen networks of superstructure realized mismatch transformation of homogeneous hydrogels, possessing superior water adsorption ability (119.73  g g−1) and strong mechanical strength (Young's modulus of 0.3  GPa). AbstractBuilding of metal –organic frameworks (MOFs) homogeneous hydrogels made by spontaneous crystallization remains a significant challenge. Inspired by anisotropically structured materials in nature, an oriented super-a...

Genes, Vol. 14, Pages 2030: Genome-Wide Identification and Characterization of the WRKY Gene Family in Cucurbita maxima
g Bo Pu Zhu In higher plants, WRKY transcription factors are broadly involved in a variety of life activities and play an important role in both biotic and abiotic stress responses. However, little is known about the functions of WRKY genes in the popular species, such as Cucurbita maxima (pumpkin), which is planted worldwide. In the present study, 102 CmWRKY genes were identified in the C. maxima genome. Chromosome location, multiple sequence alignment, phylogenetic analysis, and synteny analysis of the CmWRKYs were performed. Notably, we found that silencing CmWRKY22 promoted cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) infection, ...

Heavy Metals Accumulation in Vegetables and Its Consequences on Human Health in the Areas Influenced by Industrial Activities
Biol Trace Elem Res. 2023 Oct 28. doi: 10.1007/s12011-023-03923-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe degradation of the environment due to numerous industrial practices has emerged as a major issue globally, particularly in a country like Bangladesh. The present study dispenses information about heavy metal (Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd, and Pb) contamination in some frequently consumed vegetables, namely, ash pumpkin, potato, bitter gourd, buffalo spinach, snake gourd, and pointed gourd grown in an industrially prone location and their repercussion on consumers' health. Proton-induced X-ray emission (PIXE) technique was...

Integrated transcriptomic, proteomic and metabolomic analysis provides new insights into tetracycline stress tolerance in pumpkin
Environ Pollut. 2023 Oct 18:122777. doi: 10.1016/j.envpol.2023.122777. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe aim of this study was to conduct transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomic analysis to provide a comprehensive view of plant response to tetracycline stress. Pumpkin seeds were cultured for 7 days without or with tetracycline at 10 mg/L. Pumpkin roots showed excessive growth inhibition, but not yet strong growth restraining in cotylendons. Tetracycline affected the abundance of metabolites related to flavonoid biosynthesis and amino acid metabolism. Main changes of metabolites in flavonoid biosynthesis were consistent ...

Molecular identification and development of an infectious cDNA clone of Trichosanthes kirilowii-infecting cucurbit mild mosaic virus
In this study, cucurbit mild mosaic virus (CuMMV) belonging to the genus Fabavirus was identified from T. kirilowii plants. CuMMV possesses a segmented, bipartite linear single-stranded RNA genome composed of RNA1 and RNA2. Sequence analysis showed that each genomic segment shares the highest sequence similarity with those of CuMMV isolated from pumpkin. A full-length infectious cDNA clone of CuMMV was further constructed and was found to induce typical symptoms in T. kirilowii, Cucumis sativus, C. melo, Citrullus lanatus, and Cucurbita pepo. The sap inoculum derived from the infectious cDNA clone of CuMMV could be mechani...
