Sexual orientation moderates the relationship between internalized weight bias and binge eating symptoms among adults pursuing bariatric surgery
CONCLUSIONS: Minority stress from identifying as a sexual minority may increase vulnerability to binge eating from IWB among bariatric candidates. Future research examining the directionality of the relationship between IWB and binge eating among sexual minorities is warranted.PMID:38641526 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2024.03.019 (Source: Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases : official journal of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery)

Savoring changes novel positive mindset targets of GAD treatment: Optimism, prioritizing positivity, kill-joy thinking, and worry mediation
This study analyzed effects of savoring on unstudied positive mindset targets of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) treatment (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT05040061). 85 students with GAD were randomly assigned to one of two ecological momentary interventions (EMIs) on smartphone for seven days. The SkillJoy EMI promoted practices for savoring positive emotions. An active control EMI mirrored SkillJoy, yet did not include savoring or positive emotion. Optimism, worry, kill-joy thinking (lessening positive emotion with cognition), and prioritization of positive emotion activities and goals were assessed at pre-trial, eighth-day, ...

Basic processes and clinical applications of mental imagery in worry: A systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: Findings support dysfunctional negative imagining and diminished positive prospective imagery in GAD. General imagining abilities remain intact, which is promising for efforts to utilise imagery in treatment. Further research is warranted to develop innovative clinical applications of imagery in treatment of GAD.PMID:38640775 | DOI:10.1016/j.cpr.2024.102427 (Source: Clinical Psychology Review)

Barriers to board certification in clinical neuropsychology identified by surveyed trainees and professionals
Conclusions: Results from this survey demonstrate that Time, BC Knowledge, Training Flexibility, Preparedness, and Money related to the examination were the most frequently reported barriers. However, differences across groups (i.e. career stage, racial/ethnic) emerged, highlighting the need to develop initiatives that address the specific needs of different groups of neuropsychology trainees and professionals.PMID:38640404 | DOI:10.1080/13854046.2024.2343458 (Source: The Clinical Neuropsychologist)

Longitudinal changes in sexual desire and attraction among women who started using the Natural Cycles app
Horm Behav. 2024 Apr 18;162:105546. doi: 10.1016/j.yhbeh.2024.105546. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMany women experience sexual side effects, such as decreased libido, when taking hormonal contraceptives (HCs). However, little is known about the extent to which libido recovers after discontinuing HCs, nor about the timeframe in which recovery is expected to occur. Given that HCs suppress the activities of multiple endogenous hormones that regulate both the ovulatory cycle and women's sexual function, resumption of cycles should predict libido recovery. Here, using a combination of repeated and retrospective measures, we e...

Meeting the WHO Physical Activity Guidelines is Associated With Lower Odds of Depression in Older Adults: Potential Psychosomatic Mechanisms
CONCLUSIONS: PA was negatively associated with depression among older adults in Ghana, and psychosocial and physical factors partially explained the association. The promotion of PA in old age may aid in the prevention of depression, especially in men and those aged 50-64 years. Longitudinal data may confirm our findings.PMID:38641509 | DOI:10.1016/j.jagp.2024.04.001 (Source: Am J Geriatr Psychia...)

Effects of ESPCS mode nursing on the surgical tolerance, gastrointestinal tract recovery and self ‑management efficacy of patients with colon cancer
Oncol Lett. 2024 Apr 3;27(6):247. doi: 10.3892/ol.2024.14380. eCollection 2024 Jun.ABSTRACTColon cancer is a common gastrointestinal malignant tumor. In addition to conventional treatment, thoughtful and comprehensive aftercare should be given to patients. The present study aimed to explore the effects of explain-simulate-practice-communication-support (ESPCS) model nursing on the surgical tolerance, gastrointestinal recovery and self-management efficacy of patients with colon cancer. The clinical data of 136 patients with colon cancer diagnosed and treated at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University (Ha...

How much or how often? Examining the screening properties of the DSM cross-cutting symptom measure in a youth population-based sample
CONCLUSIONS: The DSM-XC domains showed transdiagnostic screening properties, providing small but meaningful changes in the likelihood of internalizing disorders in the community, which can be improved by asking frequency of symptoms compared to intensity. The DSM-XC is currently lacking meaningful domains for externalizing disorders.PMID:38639338 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291724000849 (Source: Psychological Medicine)
