The casual relationship between autoimmune diseases and multiple myeloma: a Mendelian randomization study
AbstractObservational studies showed possible associations between systemic lupus erythematosus and multiple myeloma. However, whether there is a casual relationship between different types of autoimmune diseases (type 1 diabetes mellitus, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, psoriasis, multiple sclerosis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, primary biliary cirrhosis, and juvenile idiopathic arthritis) and multiple myeloma (MM) is not well known. We performed a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study to estimate the casual relationship. Summary-level data of autoimmune diseases were gained from published g...

Frequency and the effects of spondyloarthritis-spectrum disorders on the clinical course and management of Takayasu arteritis: an observational retrospective study
ConclusionOur study confirmed that diseases in the SpA spectrum are not rare in TAK. Vascular symptoms appeared earlier in such patients, and more aggressive therapy with biological agents was required in the TAK-SpA group, suggesting an association between TAK and SpA spectrum.Key Points• The pathogenesis of Takayasu arteritis is mediated by an MHC class I alelle (HLA-B*52), similar to spondyloarthritis-disorders.• Extravascular findings of Takayasu arteritis are in the spectrum of spondyloarthritis disease.• This frequent coexistence between Takayasu arteritis and spondyloarthritic disorders suggests a relationship...

Double-negative T cells ameliorate psoriasis by selectively inhibiting IL-17A-producing γδlow T cells
Psoriasis is a chronic immune-mediated skin condition. Although biologic treatments are effective in controlling psoriasis, some patients do not respond or lose response to these therapies. Thus, new strategie... (Source: Journal of Translational Medicine)

Skin disorders in women with poor obstetric history: < em > MTHFR < /em > polymorphisms and importance of preconceptional counseling
CONCLUSIONS: The increased prevalence of psoriasis and acrochordons among women with MTHFR deficiency underscores the complex relationship between genetic factors and dermatological health. Our findings emphasized the critical role of MTHFR polymorphisms not only in poor obstetric history but also as significant contributors to skin disorders. This dual association highlights the importance of comprehensive preconception counseling, especially customized for women affected by skin disorders.PMID:38557333 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2024.2337668 (Source: Current Medical Research and Opinion)
