Kidney Transplant Medications: Using ramipril to control protein in urine
Don Holzheimer received a kidney transplant from his brother. Afterwards, he volunteered to participate in a clinical trial extending the use of a medication (ramipril) that has been used to control blood pressure to also control levels of protein in urine. This clinical trial also replaces calcineurin inhibitors (cyclosporine or Prograf) with sirolimus (Rapamune) to balance the effect of immunosuppressant medications.
