What are things you do or do not call for in retail pharmacy
I've seen some rphs call for Ventolin and proair switches. Would you call md if hydrocortisone 2% cream is written? That doesn't even exist so yeah Would you call when trying to fill abilify for a patient taking risperdal or just ask the patient on that? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

CA generic substitution law?
In CA, it is my understanding that you do NOT need an orange book AB rating when making a substitution. So can you substitute Adrenaclick for an EpiPen? What about Ventolin or Proventil for ProAir? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Product Substitutions and Other RX Changes Without MD Input
I understand you can substitute ProAir 8.5gm for Ventolin 90mcg/actuation 18gm if the MD specified 8.5gm, the active ingredient being bioequivalent. How far can you take this sort of liberty before insurance or the MD gets upset? What are the limits for the pharmacist to purview these things? Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Bronchoscopy Question
My 17 month old son has a CRMS dx (df508 + a "varying consequence" mutation and negative sweat). We switched clinics about 4 months ago. Our new clinic felt that my son's health history and culture history warranted a bronchoscopy. Last Wednesday he had the bronch as well as an endoscopy and an Infant PFT. Normally they have you return 2 weeks post procedure but because of the holiday it looks like we may not be getting in until sometime next month. I've asked the nurse to talk to our pulm about getting us results over the phone at least - we'll see if it happens - but in the meantime I have a couple questions ab...

eRapid and Bubbles
Ok, I know I recently posted about this, but I'm confused, so I'm trying again since I'm not getting much help from clinic. I asked them for a new mask for my son's eRapid (he uses it for albuterol.) He has been using the Pari Smartmask Kids Mask (he's 2 years old) and we had a few left over from our last pulmonologist (but he definitely needs a new mask.) So, I went to pick up the masks, and they gave me two Bubbles the Fish masks. I don't think I can use these. Pretty sure I read somewhere the Bubbles mask is not compatible with eRapid...So, I guess my questions are, can I use the Bubbles the Fish mask with the eRapid fo...

I spent 4 weeks on iv antibiotics this summer and got pancreatitus as a side effect. This was my drs big hint. As i said in the title i am 36yo. I had no idea anything was wrong with my lungs till i got pregnant with my now 4yo son(carrier-d1125h). At 5 weeks pregnant i had my first and only real...

Qvar 1 or 2 a day?
So DS doctor wants to up his qvar or rather has. She gave us the choice of a higher dose 1 a day or same dose 2 a day. I asked adv and disadvantages and whether better to do 2 a day which seems intuitively like t would be better but she said it s no different. Bu what I wonder is is that a clinical test no different like the albuterol inhaler versus nebulizers which studies show no different but cfers in practice will say the nebulized version works better? Or is it truly no different? We've been doing 2 a day because I have the meds left but in the evening DS is already exhausted and bouncing off the walls as am I so I'm ...

So confused....no diagnosis...stop looking?
Looking for confirmation my 8 year old daughter doesn't have cf. Wondering what is going on. Has environmental allergies (as shown on skin tests 2x). Diagnosed with asthma 2 yrs ago due to cough...no wheeze ever. Last school year had bacterial pneumonia in Sept (x-ray at er) and bacterial pneumonia in May (2 night hosp stay). Possible pneumonia in mid June...treated but no x-ray. In past has seen GI for possible reflux and genetics b/c she didn't sweat. Sweating has slowly started and they think possible connective tissue disorder. Recurrent pneumonias have lead to numerous tests. She's been doing really well since increa...

Hypertonic saline mixed with other medications in the same neb session
Is it ok to mix hypertonic saline with other medications in the same neb session? My DD is on Combivent (Ipratropium bromide + albuterol sulphate) and pulmicort (Budesonide) and I was wondering if we can mix the HS with them or should we do it seperately? (Source: Cystic Fibrosis Families Forum)

Possible CF (input please)
Hello all. I am a 20 year old male, and was recently tested via sweat test for CF. I received the call five days ago that I did not have CF due to the results, but I am not fully confident (as online research has led me to discover that in some, albeit very few, cases, the sweat test may produce normal results despite the patient having CF). Here's why I am not fully confident: 1) I was diagnosed with asthma at a young age--however, this asthma is so mild that it has a negligible impact on my life as of now. I need to take two puffs of my albuterol inhaler MAYBE once a week, if not less than that. I do not usually need i...

new need opinions
Let me start from the beginning.Last December my daughter was diagnosed with malabsorpation. She was 10lbs at 7 months old. We seen a gastric specialist. Changed diet etc. She gained weight and doctors were happy. When she turned a year old in may we discovered she is lactose intolerant. It progressively got worse until 3 months ago. The middle of October my daughter formed a nasty cough and runny nose. Doctors told me it was viral.for a month my daughter would cough so bad at night it would make her sick, keep her awake. She would scream in her sleep. (Not night terrors) finally I got fed up. My daughter was suffering. I ...

False negative sputum culture?
How often are sputum cultures false negative? My son is currently recovering from a month of sickness including sinusitis that then settled into his chest. His sputum culture was taken 3 days after he finished 10 days of amox and had just started 3 days of augmentin. His sputum was thick yellow good sample and came back normal. I suppose he could have viral pneumonia but I almost wish it was something so we could do something besides empiric therapy. He is being treated with oral antibiotic for one month now and getting better along with albuterol/pulmicort. Any insights? (Source: Cystic Fibrosis Newly Diagnosed Forum)

I also take Pulmozyme, albuterol and hypertonic saline, as well as azithromycin (500 mg 3x/week), symbicort, flonase. Any info would be appreciated. (Source: Cystic Fibrosis Pregnancy Forum)

She has maintained her weight and height and fev of 72-4 for the past yr without any hospitalizations. They want her to be at 100lbs. I feel like her GI dr always wants to do unnessecary tests. Now he is saying her lack of weigh...
