Bone quality in zebrafish vertebrae improves after alendronate administration in a glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis model
J Mech Behav Biomed Mater. 2024 Mar 24;154:106521. doi: 10.1016/j.jmbbm.2024.106521. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGlucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis (GIOP) changes the microarchitecture of bones and often leads to the reduction of bone-mineral density (BMD) and increased fracture rates. Zebrafish has been used as an alternative model for GIOP, however, the interaction of GIOP, and its treatment, with zebrafish bone morphometrics and mechanical properties, remains a challenge. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of prednisolone and alendronate on the properties of zebrafish vertebrae. Adult 7-month-old zebrafis...

Inhibition of IL-25/IL-17RA improves immune-related adverse events of checkpoint inhibitors and reveals antitumor activity
CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that IL-25/IL-17RA may serve as an additional target when treating ICI-responsive tumors, allowing for better tumor control while suppressing immune-related toxicities.PMID:38519059 | DOI:10.1136/jitc-2023-008482 (Source: Cancer Control)

Evaluation of the effectiveness of using prednisolone, tacrolimus, and intravenous immunoglobulin combination therapy on immune ‐mediated necrotizing myopathy—A non‐randomized, observational research
ConclusionThe combination therapy of prednisolone, tacrolimus, and IVIG has demonstrated favorable efficacy in IMNM and broadened the treatment options for this disease. However, the results still require further validation by large-scale and randomized controlled studies. (Source: International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases)

Sudden onset of symptoms in concurrent Takayasu arteritis and Ulcerative colitis: A case report with neurological complications
We present a rare case of a 44-year-old female diagnosed with both UC and TAK, characterized by an unusual acute asymptomatic onset accompanied by neurological manifestations. The patient exhibited symptoms of acute ischemic stroke along with vascular abnormalities, as well as colon inflammation associated with UC. The patient's asymptomatic presentation at the onset differs from previously reported cases. The presence of additional complications, such as hepatocellular adenoma and primary sclerosing cholangitis, further complicated the diagnostic challenges. The patient's treatment involved a combination of methylpredniso...

Initiation of belimumab with higher daily prednisolone is effective for rapid glucocorticoid reduction: A 96-week retrospective study
CONCLUSIONS: Our study showed that a delay in belimumab initiation led to higher SLEDAI-2K score and difficulty in achieving a 50% GC reduction at 96 weeks. Since GC-related adverse events increase with long-term administration of GC though with small daily doses, we proposed here that belimumab should be started in combination with higher daily prednisolone.PMID:38509864 | DOI:10.1177/09612033241240859 (Source: Lupus)
