Prednisone and prednisolone effects on development, blood, biochemical and histopathological markers of Aquarana catesbeianus tadpoles
Aquat Toxicol. 2024 Feb 18;268:106869. doi: 10.1016/j.aquatox.2024.106869. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSynthetic glucocorticoids are often found in surface waters and can cause harmful effects to aquatic organisms such as amphibians. In this work we evaluated the effects of the drugs prednisone (PD) and prednisolone (PL) on developmental, molecular, blood, biochemical and histological markers. Aquarana catesbeianus tadpoles were exposed for 16 days to environmentally relevant concentrations of 0, 0.1, 1 and 10 µg/L of both drugs. PD increased the transcript levels of the enzyme deiodinase III (Dio3), the hormones cortis...

Steroid reduction ‐resistant pulmonary involvement with Sweet's syndrome suspected of being vacuoles, E1 enzyme, X‐linked, autoinflammatory, somatic syndrome: A case report
Few cases of lung lesions presenting with respiratory failure in Sweet's syndrome have been reported. We herein report a case of Sweet's syndrome in a patient suspected with VEXAS syndrome. AbstractIn cases of Sweet's syndrome with pulmonary involvement, fever of unknown origin, and macrocytic anaemia, VEXAS syndrome can be considered in the differential diagnosis. A 67-year-old man who was taking prednisolone for a fever of unknown origin and Sweet's syndrome was referred to us because of an abnormal chest shadow. Computed tomography revealed a nonfibrotic hypersensitivity pneumonitis-like opacity, and blood test results ...

N-Acetyl Cysteine Augments Adipose Tissue-Derived Stem Cell Efficacy on Inflammatory Markers and Regulatory T Cell System Balance in an Allergic Asthma Model
Conclusion: The results of the present study documented that the administration of ADSCs plus NAC has an inhibitory effect on the inflammation caused by allergic asthma in a rat model. The improvement of inflammatory indexes was significantly higher than that with prednisolone treatment.PMID:38376812 | DOI:10.1080/02770903.2024.2321296 (Source: Journal of Asthma)

Case report: Sustained complete remission with all-oral MEPED therapy in a patient with Hodgkin ’s disease developing resistance to pembrolizumab
In conclusion, we demonstrate for the first time that MEPED therapy is highly effective in a patient with Hodgkin’s disease who has been refractory to ICPi. Sustained CR was achieved over 11 months after initiation of MEPED therapy. Further studies on a larger patient cohort should be performed. (Source: Frontiers in Pharmacology)

Successful treatment of multiple sclerosis with refractory rheumatoid arthritis using ofatumumab: A case report
ConclusionThere is growing evidence of significant involvement of B-cells in the pathogenesis of RA and the effectiveness of B-cell depletion therapy in managing RA. Ofatumumab is an effective treatment for patients with MS and refractory RA. (Source: Clinical and Experimental Neuroimmunology)

Pain in children with Bells palsy: secondary analysis of a randomised controlled trial
Conclusions Pain in children with Bell’s palsy was infrequent and primarily occurred early in the disease course and in more severe disease. The intensity of pain, if it occurs, is very low throughout the clinical course of disease. Trial registration number ACTRN12615000563561. (Source: Archives of Disease in Childhood)

Outcome following acute and recurrent rheumatic fever
CONCLUSION: Clinical carditis was the most common presenting symptom in patients with ARF and RRF. The majority of patients responded positively to prednisolone. These findings highlight the predictors of valve surgery following ARF, including RRF, TR gradient ≥ 42 mmHg and LVEDD ≥ 6 cm.Abbreviations: ARF: acute rheumatic fever; CRP: C-reactive protein; ESR: erythrocyte sedimentation rate; GAS: group A beta-haemolytic Streptococcus; HF: heart failure; HR: hazard ratio; LVEDD: left ventricular end-diastolic dimension; MR: mitral regurgitation; RHD: rheumatic heart disease; RRF: recurrent rheumatic fever; TR: tricuspid r...
