Multiple coexisting variations of skull and cervical spine anatomy in a symptomatic patient - uncommon or uncommonly noticed? A CT-based case study
CONCLUSION: To the best knowledge of the authors, this case report is the first to present such a coexistence of this many various anatomical anomalies, among which some played a crucial part in the chronic sinusitis experienced by the patient. Concurrence of multiple variations in the same anatomical area or functional unit may exacerbate clinical presentation of a patient. Identifying a single anomaly ought to warrant a thorough investigation into any other potentially existing variants.PMID:38445513 | DOI:10.5603/fm.98606 (Source: Folia Morphologica)

Clinical characteristics and long-term outcomes of patients with heart failure with improved ejection fraction. First Polish experience from LECRA-HF registry
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings indicate that every sixth Polish patient with HFrEF has a chance to improve LVEF during follow-up and to become a HFimpEF patient. Baseline characteristics of HFimpEF patients are different from HFnon-impEF. Simultaneously, the HFimpEF diagnosis is associated with higher long-term survival.PMID:38447613 | DOI:10.1016/j.advms.2024.02.009 (Source: Advances in Medical Sciences)

Temperament and attachment dimensions as predictors for impairments of personality functioning according to DSM-5
CONCLUSIONS: The impairments in personality functioning included in DSM-5 Criterion A are largely explained by two sets of variables: the more enduring and innate temperament and the attachment acquired through early interactions. Such a distinction is important from a clinical perspective, in which effective interactions can target those properties that can be modified and take into account those that are difficult or impossible to modify.PMID:38444276 | DOI:10.12740/PP/OnlineFirst/168747 (Source: Psychiatria Polska)

The profession of psycho-oncologist in Poland as an example of inadequate legal regulation in the area of health care
Psychiatr Pol. 2023 Mar 9:1-12. doi: 10.12740/PP/OnlineFirst/152857. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe profession of psycho-oncologist in Poland is not sufficiently regulated by law. The issue is further complicated by the fact that this profession has not been classified by the legislature in the group of medical professions, but only in the group of allied health professions. Currently, according to the Regulation of the Minister of Health on guaranteed services in the field of hospital treatment, a psycho-oncologist is a person with higher medical education, i.e. a graduate of a medical university, for example a doctor ...

Assessment of legacy and emerging PFAS in the Oder River: Occurrence, distribution, and sources
Environ Res. 2024 Mar 4:118608. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2024.118608. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe purpose of the study was to evaluate the occurrence and distribution of emerging contaminants, poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), in the Polish Oder River, aiming to uncover new insights into their environmental impact. The research aimed to identify potential sources of PFAS, assess water quality levels, and verify compliance with European Union environmental quality standards. The concentrations of 25 PFAS (20 legacy and 5 emerging) in 20 samples from intakes upstream and downstream of urban areas were analyzed u...

Molecular Determinants of Drug Resistance and Mutation Patterns in Influenza Viruses Circulating in Poland Across Multiple Epidemic Seasons: Implications for Vaccination Strategies
CONCLUSIONS It seems important to determine whether the influenza virus strains tested for drug resistance as part of global influenza surveillance are equally representative of viruses circulating in populations with high and low vaccination rates, for all countries. Our results suggest that countries with low levels of influenza immunization may constitute reservoirs of drug-resistant influenza viruses.PMID:38446736 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.942125 (Source: Medical Science Monitor)
