Impact of SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on vascular liver diseases
Vascular liver diseases (VLD) are represented mainly by portosinusoidal vascular disease (PSVD), non-cirrhotic splanchnic vein thrombosis (SVT) and Budd Chiari syndrome (BCS). It is unknown whether patients with VLD constitute a high-risk population for complications and greater COVID-19-related mortality from SARS-CoV-2 infection. Our objective was to assess the prevalence and severity of SARS-CoV-2 infection among patients with VLD, as well as to assess its impact on hepatic decompensation and survival. Test characteristics of cross-sectional imaging and concordance with endoscopy in postoperative Crohn ’s disease
Postoperative Crohn ’s disease (CD) surveillance relies on endoscopic monitoring. The role of cross-sectional imaging is less clear. We evaluated the concordance of cross-sectional enterography with endoscopic recurrence and the predictive ability of radiography for future CD postoperative recurrence. Prevalence of High-risk Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH) in the United States: Results From NHANES 2017 –2018
The population prevalence of high-risk non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), defined as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease activity score ≥4 and fibrosis stage ≥2, is unknown. The FibroScan-AST (FAST) score, calculated using liver stiffness measurement and controlled attenuation parameter values from FibroScan and aspartate aminotransferase levels, is a validated algorithm to identify individuals with high-risk NASH. We estimated the prevalence of high-risk NASH using the FAST score in the United States population. (Source: Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology)

COVID-19 vaccine is effective in inflammatory bowel disease patients and is not associated with disease exacerbation
Studies have shown decreased response to COVID-19 vaccinations in some populations. In addition, it is possible that vaccine-triggered immune activation could trigger immune-dysregulation and thus exacerbate inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). In this population-based study we used the epi-Israeli IBD Research Nucleus (IIRN) validated cohort to explore the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccination in IBD and to assess its effect on disease outcomes. Defining the Patchy Landscape of Esophageal Eosinophilia in Children with Eosinophilic Esophagitis
Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE) is a patchy disease of the esophagus with significant variability in intra-epithelial eosinophilia. Three biopsies each from distal and proximal esophagus are recommended for identification of active EoE. Recent work suggests 3 biopsy sites is more optimal. We sought to evaluate 2-site vs. 3-site esophageal biopsy combinations for utility to identify active EoE. (Source: Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology)

Associations of Food Intolerance with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Psychological Symptoms, and Quality of Life
The impact of different types of food intolerance on gastrointestinal symptoms and quality of life (QOL) is poorly understood. We aimed to investigate associations of food intolerance and type of intolerance with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), health-related QOL, and psychological symptoms. Supplementing Dietary Fibers With a Low-FODMAP Diet in Irritable Bowel Syndrome: A Randomized Controlled Crossover Trial
Institution of a diet low in fermented oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols (FODMAPs) in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) may lead to inadequate fiber intake. This trial aimed to investigate the effects of supplementing specific fibers concomitantly with low-FODMAP diet on relevant clinical and physiological indices in symptomatic patients with IBS.
