Genetics and Genomics of Pulmonary Fibrosis: Charting the Molecular Landscape and Shaping Precision Medicine
Am J Respir Crit Care Med. 2024 Apr 4. doi: 10.1164/rccm.202401-0238SO. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRecent genetic and genomic advancements have elucidated the complex etiology of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and other progressive fibrotic interstitial lung diseases (ILDs), emphasizing the contribution of heritable factors. This state-of-the-art review synthesizes evidence on significant genetic contributors to pulmonary fibrosis (PF), including rare genetic variants and common single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). The MUC5B promoter variant is unusual, a common SNP that markedly elevates the risk of early and e...

IL-10 Counteracts IFN- γ to Alleviate Acute Lung Injury in a Viral-Bacterial Superinfection Model
Am J Respir Cell Mol Biol. 2024 Apr 4. doi: 10.1165/rcmb.2023-0437OC. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTImmune activation is essential for lung control of viral and bacterial infection, but an overwhelming inflammatory response often leads to the onset of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Interleukin-10 (IL-10) plays a crucial role in regulating the balance between antimicrobial immunity and immunopathology. In the current study, we have investigated the role of IL-10 in acute lung injury (ALI) induced by influenza A virus (IAV) and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) coinfection. This unique coinfecti...

Identification of connective tissue disease autoantibodies and a novel autoantibody anti-annexin A11 in patients with "idiopathic" interstitial lung disease
CONCLUSION: Specific guidance on autoantibody testing and interpretation in patients with ILD could improve diagnostic accuracy. Further work is required to determine the clinical significance of anti-annexin A11.PMID:38575043 | DOI:10.1016/j.clim.2024.110201 (Source: Clinical Immunology)
