Pleural plasmacytomas in a patient with multiple myeloma relapse
This report describes a patient with MM who was in complete remission but relapsed with multiple pleural plasmacytomas. The diagnosis was established in a timely manner and the patient was started on appropriate treatment.PMID:36411823 | PMC:PMC9674928 | DOI:10.1016/j.rmcr.2022.101777 (Source: Respiratory Care)

Plasma cell neoplasms and related entities —evolution in diagnosis and classification
AbstractPlasma cell neoplasms including multiple myeloma (MM) and related terminally differentiated B-cell neoplasms are characterized by secretion of monoclonal immunoglobulin and stepwise development from a preneoplastic clonal B and/or plasma cell proliferation called monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS). Diagnosis of these disorders requires integration of clinical, laboratory, and morphological features. While their classification mostly remains unchanged compared to the revised 2016 WHO classification and the 2014 International Myeloma Working Group consensus, some changes in criteria and termino...

431 PVT1 is overexpressed in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma and acts as an oncogenic long non-coding RNA
In this study, we identified plasmacytoma variant translocation 1 (PVT1) as a lncRNA upregulated in cSCC compared to healthy skin and to precancerous lesions (actinic keratosis). In situ hybridization analysis of PVT1-expression on a large cohort of cSCCs and precancerous lesions revealed that increased PVT1-expression is associated with the invasive phenotype. De Novo Extramedullary Plasmacytoma of Thyroid Cartilage
Myeloma involving the laryngeal cartilage is rare, whereas extramedullary plasmacytoma involving only the thyroid cartilage is even rarer. No case of de novo extramedullary plasmacytoma involving thyroid cartilage has been published so far. Hence, it was a diagnostic challenge for clinicians, radiologists, and pathologists. Here, we presented a case of a 61-year-old man who had fixed right laryngeal swelling. After 18F-FDG PET/CT, biopsy, and myeloma workup, it was found to be plasmacytoma involving the right thyroid cartilage lamina. This case highlighted the rarity of this presentation and the importance of keeping in mi...

Spheno-Orbital Plasmacytoma as an Initial Presentation of Multiple Myeloma
This report includes descriptions of radiologic and clinical findings in a patient with intracranial plasmacytoma. Intracranial extra-axial plasmacytomas can be easily misdiagnosed as meningioma in radiologic and clinical findings. A 69-year-old woman presented with exophthalmos and diplopia, and MRI indicated meningioma. Thus, she underwent gross total resection, and her pathologic diagnosis was plasmacytoma. Exophthalmos and diplopia were fully recovered. She was finally diagnosed with multiple myeloma based on systemic evaluation and treated with targeted chemotherapy. MRI conducted at 3 months after surgery showed no l...

Radiographic Response of Solitary Plasmacytomas After Conformal Radiotherapy May Be Delayed: Outcomes in the 3D Era
Conclusions: More conformal dose distribution with proton therapy does not appear to alter patterns of recurrence. Although response rates differ based on criteria by both RECIST and PERCIST assessments, the radiographic response may be slow and requires validation in other cohorts.
