Pituitary Adenoma Prevalence and Characteristics of Omani Patients: A Single Center Experience
CONCLUSIONS: In our investigation, PA was primarily prevalent among Omani female patients, and the most common subtype of pituitary tumors was prolactinomas. The most common presentation symptom was headaches; most female patients had menstrual irregularities. Medical treatment was the primary approach for the applicable types of PAs, while surgery and radiotherapy were found to be secondary and tertiary treatment options, respectively.PMID:38567166 | PMC:PMC10985075 | DOI:10.5001/omj.2024.44 (Source: Oman Medical Journal)

Drug development and potential targets for Cushing's syndrome
Eur J Med Chem. 2024 Mar 22;270:116333. doi: 10.1016/j.ejmech.2024.116333. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCushing's syndrome (CS) is a complex disorder characterized by the excessive secretion of cortisol, with Cushing's disease (CD), particularly associated with pituitary tumors, exhibiting heightened morbidity and mortality. Although transsphenoidal pituitary surgery (TSS) stands as the primary treatment for CD, there is a crucial need to optimize patient prognosis. Current medical therapy serves as an adjunctive measure due to its unsatisfactory efficacy and unpredictable side effects. In this comprehensive review, we de...

Evaluation and Surgical Management of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasias
Multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) syndromes are rare autosomal dominant diseases that are associated with a mixture of both endocrine and non-endocrine tumors. Traditionally, there are 2 types of MEN that have unique clinical associations: MEN 1 (parathyroid hyperplasia, pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, and pituitary tumors) and MEN 2 (medullary thyroid carcinoma and pheochromocytoma), which is further classified into MEN 2A (adds parathyroid adenomas) and 2B (adds ganglioneuromas and marfanoid habitus). Many of the endocrine tumors are resected surgically, and the pre, intra, and postoperative management strategies used...

The lesion detection rate of Ga ‐68 DOTATATE PET/MR in multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1
ConclusionThe combination of Ga-68 DOTATATE PET and MRI demonstrated a higher detection rate and may be more useful in the work-up of MEN1 providing a panoramic view of MEN1-related lesions. To increase the identification of MEN1-associated neuroendocrine lesions in the parathyroid gland, approaches other than Ga-68 DOTATATE PET/MRI should be used. Brain tumor surgery in adults.
Magy Onkol. 2024 Mar 14;68(1):13-25. Epub 2023 Nov 12.ABSTRACTDespite the advanced medical and radiation therapy, the role of surgical resection of brain neoplasms still remains indisputable. The maximal safe resection of benign brain tumors may result in complete recovery of the patient. Surgery of malignant tumors can resolve mass effect, improve the neurological condition of the patient providing the possibility for further complex oncotherapy based on molecular level histopathology results. The advances in technical and multidisciplinary environment of brain tumor surgery facilitate more radical and safer resection res...
