Brain tumor classification: a novel approach integrating GLCM, LBP and composite features
Identifying and classifying tumors are critical in-patient care and treatment planning within the medical domain. Nevertheless, the conventional approach of manually examining tumor images is characterized by its lengthy duration and subjective nature. In response to this challenge, a novel method is proposed that integrates the capabilities of Gray-Level Co-Occurrence Matrix (GLCM) features and Local Binary Pattern (LBP) features to conduct a quantitative analysis of tumor images (Glioma, Meningioma, Pituitary Tumor). The key contribution of this study pertains to the development of interaction features, which are obtaine...

Reporting of Participants' Sex, Race, Ethnicity, and Socioeconomic Status in Pituitary Surgery Literature
Conclusions Most clinical pituitary research collects and reports data on participant sex. However, very few studies collect and report data on other sociodemographic variables that can play a role in outcomes. The lack of sociodemographic information in clinical research literature makes it difficult to determine the role of SDOH on pituitary surgery outcomes. Secondary vs. primary pituitary xanthogranulomas: Which yellow is more mellow?
Endocr J. 2024 Jan 27. doi: 10.1507/endocrj.EJ23-0398. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPituitary xanthogranulomatomas (XG) are a rare pathological entity caused by accumulation of lipid laden macrophages and reactive granuloma formation usually triggered by cystic fluid leakage or hemorrhage. Our aim was to compare clinical characteristics and presenting features of patients with secondary etiology of XG and those with no identifiable founding lesion (primary -"pure" XG) in order to gain new insights into this rare pituitary pathology. In a retrospective review of 714 patients operated for sellar masses, at tertiary center, ...

Growth hormone directly stimulates GATA2 expression
CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that GH directly stimulates GATA2 via the GHR/JAK/STAT pathway and participates in various developmental phenomena mediated by GATA2.PMID:38281404 | DOI:10.1016/j.ghir.2024.101572 (Source: Growth Hormone and IGF Research)

Low-grade magnetic resonance image enhancement using adaptive sigmoid transformation function
ConclusionsAfter considerable testing, it was discovered that the suggested method effectively increases visual contrast while retaining the original characteristics of the input picture and avoiding overly or inadequately improved images. (Source: Health and Technology)

Prevalence, clinical presentation, management of pituitary tumour and its complications among elderly population in Mumbai, India
Bioinformation. 2023 Dec 31;19(12):1139-1144. doi: 10.6026/973206300191139. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTPituitary tumour is not typically thought of as an elderly patient's condition. Hence, we examined all cases of confirmed or suspected pituitary tumour diagnosed in a tertiary hospitals at Mumbai, India during May 2015 and May 2023 among patients over the age of 70 to evaluate the prevalence, clinical presentation, management, complications in elderly patients with a pituitary tumour. After the age of 70 years, 16% people having pituitary tumour were observed. The volume of fossa was statistically greater in elderly patient...

Spontaneous Pituitary Neoplasm in Two Female Geriatric Southern Giant Pouched Rats ( < em > Cricetomys ansorgei < /em > )
Comp Med. 2023 Dec 1;73(6):486-493. doi: 10.30802/AALAS-CM-23-000051.ABSTRACTSouthern giant pouched rats (Cricetomys ansorgei) are a small muroid species native to the sub-Saharan Africa. Their exceptionally developed olfactory system, trainability, and relatively small size makes them useful working animals for various applications in humanitarian work. At our institution, a breeding colony of Southern giant pouched rats is maintained to study their physiology and utility as scent detectors. This case report describes the occurrence of spontaneous pituitary neoplasms with distinct clinical presentations in 2 geriatric (ap...

A prospective-randomized placebo-controlled trial comparing the effects of nebulized dexmedetomidine v/s dexmedetomidine-lignocaine mixture on intraoperative hemodynamics and surgical field quality in patients undergoing endoscopic transnasal transsphenoidal pituitary tumor surgery
CONCLUSION: The administration of nebulized dexmedetomidine, both alone and in combination with lignocaine, resulted in stable hemodynamics, favorable operative conditions, reduced anesthetic requirement, and facilitated prompt emergence during TNTSS. Nebulized dexmedetomidine proved superior to its combination with lignocaine across all evaluated parameters.PMID:38213443 | PMC:PMC10783663 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_858_2023 (Source: Surgical Neurology International)

Endoscopic trans-sphenoidal pituitary surgery does not impact postoperative nasal quality of life
ConclusionsOur concept of minimally invasive endoscopic tumor resections on the pituitary gland with preservation of nasal turbinates shows low morbidity for the patient. Despite objectifiable surgery-associated changes in the nose, nasal physiology in terms of smell, airflow and mucociliary clearance can be preserved and the subjective quality of life of our patients remains stable.
