The Weekend Food Diary Of A Healthy Family On A Budget
Because I'm a dietitian, people assume that every meal and snack my family eats features all food groups and looks Pinterest-perfect. And while I strive to feed my family as many fresh, whole foods as possible, I'm also working with a food budget.
So what does that mean in the real world? Here's what the lead-in to the weekend typically looks like for my family -- myself, my husband, and my two boys, ages 12 and 8 -- the good, the not-so-good and everything in between.

The Weirdest Thing: One Week From Landing
Today was our last Sunday on sMars. In less than a week, the hatch will open and the six of us will rejoin the world. In some (obvious) ways, we never left. In many ways, we'll be aliens among our own kind.
When your whole world looks like this, your values change a bit.
It's easier than you might think to step out of the world - so easy, in fact, that people do it on accident. We spend a weekend in the woods; volunteer for a summer in rural Mexico; go for a long walk across Spain, moving from east to west, from the mountains skirting France to the edge of the Atlantic ocean. After the week, month, season or year away,...

A Different Way Of Thinking About Weight Loss
Imagine....
If you lived in a world where women's bodies were all kinds of shapes... and there was nothing wrong, less lovable, less worthy about any of those bodies.
A woman could be thin and waif-ish, or solid and athletic, or curvy and luscious, or round and soft....and she would have exactly the same opportunities and options and respect.
And in that world of incredible diverse body shapes, there were women who were thinner than you and women who were fatter than you....and no one really cared.
Tell me: how would you feel about your body in that world?
I bet you'd still think about your body, on some level. You'...

"They love to eat anything we are eating," Dr. Heather Manfredi, a veterinarian at Lap of Love, says, but they can't tell the difference between what is good and potentially fatal for them.

Is Buying Organic Really Worth It?
Buying organic food typically involves shelling out a premium. But is the extra pinch to the pocket actually worth it?
Last week, a Department of Agriculture report revealed just how much it really costs to shop organic.
Organic eggs, milk and salad greens can cost upwards of 60 percent more than conventional alternatives, while items like apples, carrots, granola and spinach carry premiums of between 7 and 30 percent, the study said.
Producing organic food tends to be costlier along every part of the supply chain -- including farming practices that usually require greater labor inputs and segregating organic ...

Link Between Heart Attacks And Osteoarthritis Surgery
Around 1.8 million people every year opt for hip or knee replacements. But I don’t recommend surgery, unless it’s absolutely necessary.
And new research reveals that in the month after they had surgery, these patients — many of whom are osteoarthritis sufferers — simply replaced their bad knees and hips with a heart attack.
Osteoarthritis is the most common chronic condition of the joints.
That’s why I recommend natural remedies that ease the pain of osteoarthritis in a much more effective and safer way — and in some cases they can even reverse this debilitating condition.
You see, getting a new hi...
