Lycium barbarum polysaccharides attenuate nonylphenol and octylphenol-induced oxidative stress and neurotransmitter disorders in PC-12 cells
This study aims to explore the cytotoxicity of combined NP and OP exposure and evaluate the potential of Lycium barbarum polysaccharides (LBP) in mitigating the aforementioned toxicity. In present study, LBP (62.5, 125 and 250µg/mL) were applied to intervene rat adrenal pheochromocytoma (PC-12) cells treated with combined NP and OP (NP: OP = 4:1, w/w; 1, 2, 4 and 8µg/mL). The results showed that NP and OP induced oxidative stress, disrupted the 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) and cholinergic systems in PC-12 cells. Additionally, they activated the p38 protein kinase (p38) and suppressed the expression of silent information re...

Diagnostic performance of [68Ga]DOTATATE PET/CT, [18F]FDG PET/CT, MRI of the spine, and whole-body diagnostic CT and MRI in the detection of spinal bone metastases associated with pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma
Conclusions[68Ga]DOTATATE PET/CT should be the modality of choice in PPGL-related spinal bone metastases due to its superior detection rate.Clinical relevance statementIn a prospective study of 43 pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma participants with spinal bone metastases, [68Ga]DOTATATE PET/CT had a superior per-lesion detection rate of 98.7% (377/382), compared to [18F]FDG PET/CT (p <  0.001), MRI of the spine (p <  0.001), whole-body CT (p <  0.001), and whole-body MRI (p <  0.001).Graphical abstractKey Points• Data regarding head-to-head comparison between functional and anatomic imaging modal...

Bioinformatic Identification of Signaling Pathways and Hub Genes in Vascular Dementia
CONCLUSION: Our study provides a new perspective on the pathogenic mechanisms of VaD and potential avenues for therapeutic intervention. The results highlight the role of ADRA1D in modulating cellular responses to OGD and VaD, suggesting its potential as a target for VaD treatment.PMID:38622006 | DOI:10.62641/aep.v52i2.1601 (Source: Actas Espanolas de Psiquiatria)

Paraaortic Extra-Adrenal Paraganglioma: Challenging Robotic Resection
CONCLUSIONS: Robotic-assisted resection can be safe and effective for retroperitoneal malignant paragangliomas. However, management extends beyond surgery and requires cascade genetic testing to address familial risks. Because of the high probability of cancer associated with SDHB mutation, lifelong patient surveillance is imperative.PMID:38615151 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-024-15267-z (Source: Ann Oncol)

Opposing effects of cannabidiol in patient-derived neuroendocrine tumor, pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma primary cultures
CONCLUSIONS: We suggest a potential novel treatment option for some NETs/PPGLs, but also provide evidence for caution when applying cannabinoids as supportive therapy for pain or appetite management to cancer patients, and possibly as health supplements.PMID:38605427 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae241 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)

Outcomes of SDHB pathogenic variant carriers: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Penetrance for PPGL in SDHB PV carriers increases linearly with age. Affected carriers are at risk of developing and dying from metastatic disease, or of developing second tumors. Lifelong surveillance is appropriate.PMID:38605204 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae233 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)
