Polymer-coated paclitaxel-eluting stents for the treatment of stenosed native arteriovenous fistulas: Long-term results from the ELUDIA study
CONCLUSIONS: This observational study has shown promising long-term results of polymer-coated paclitaxel-eluting stents for the treatment of failing arteriovenous fistulas. Large-scale controlled studies are necessary.PMID:37341208 | DOI:10.1177/11297298231174263 (Source: The Journal of Vascular Access)

Revascularization of Peripheral Arteries in Patients with Intermittent Claudication Decreases Inflammatory Biomarkers
Clin Appl Thromb Hemost. 2023 Jan-Dec;29:10760296231176815. doi: 10.1177/10760296231176815.ABSTRACTPatients with intermittent claudication have significantly higher levels of inflammatory biomarkers, particularly interleukins, which is also a consequence of exercise limitation. Physical activity, which is one of the preventive measures against atherosclerosis, is associated with a decrease in inflammatory biomarkers. Therefore, in our study, we investigated the effects of revascularization of peripheral arteries in patients with intermittent claudication on functional capacity and levels of inflammatory markers. The study ...

Objective Performance Goals Based on a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Outcomes for Bare Metal Stents and Angioplasty for Hemodialysis-related Central Venous Obstruction
To use safety and efficacy outcomes following treatment with percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) and/or stent placement for thoracic central venous obstruction (TCVO) in hemodialysis-dependent patients to establish objective performance goals (OPGs). Antecubital perforating vein stent-grafting for radiocephalic arteriovenous fistula recovery: A case report
This report presents a novel application of stent-grafts in salvaging a radio-cephalic arteriovenous fistula in an 84-year-old male to treat a single outflow path at the elbow through a stenosed antecubital perforating vein, after failed PTA. The vascular access remained patent 18 months after the procedure, with no need for additional treatments at this target lesion, even though a PTA was required for juxta-anastomotic stenosis. This report highlights a possible further use of covered stents in arteriovenous vascular accesses.PMID:37245998 | DOI:10.1111/sdi.13158 (Source: Seminars in Dialysis)

History of Carotid Artery Reconstruction around the World and in Japan
Neurol Med Chir (Tokyo). 2023 Apr 20. doi: 10.2176/jns-nmc.2022-0362. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSince ancient times, physicians have been aware of correlations between the carotid artery and consciousness; however, carotid stenosis was only recently identified as the cause of atherothrombotic ischemic stroke. In 1658, Wepfer described the first suggestion of a link between symptoms of cerebral arterial insufficiency and carotid pathology. In 1951, Fisher reported details of the symptoms and pathological findings and emphasized that cervical atheromatous lesions induced cerebral infarction with various symptoms. The beg...
