Integrating vascular access surveillance with clinical monitoring for stenosis prediction
CONCLUSION: Blood flow surveillance models using thresholds of < 400 and < 600 mL/min, followed by thorough physical examination, showed an accuracy of 91.54% and 72.15% in predicting stenosis in patients with arteriovenous fistula and arteriovenous graft, respectively. These two blood flow surveillance models may be integrated with routine clinical monitoring to improve early detection and treatment of stenosis in hemodialysis patients.PMID:37980698 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-023-01799-2 (Source: Journal of Nephrology)

Randomized clinical trial to compare the efficacy of self-expanding bare metal nitinol stent and balloon angioplasty alone for below-the-knee lesions following successful balloon angioplasty: 1-year clinical outcomes
by Jihun Ahn, HyeYon Yu, Seung-Woon Rha, Byoung Geol Choi, Dong Oh Kang, Cheol Ung Choi, Sangho Park, Jon Seo, Kichang Kim, Minung Kim, Yong Hoon Kim, Yong Seong Seo This prospective, multicenter, randomized study aimed to compare the 1-year clinical outcomes after primary stenting with self-expanding bare metal nitinol stent (SENS) and plain old balloon angioplasty (POBA) in patients with critical limb ischemia (CLI) and below-the-knee (BTK) lesions. Overall, 119 patients with CLI and BTK lesions were randomized to POBA alone (POBA group, 61 patients) or primary stenting with SENS (stenting group, 58 patients) after achi...

Severe acute kidney injury in a patient with renal artery stenosis of a single-functioning kidney: A case report of rapid normalisation of the renal function after percutaneous transluminal angioplasty with stent placement
We describe a case of acute degradation of the renal function (with oligo-anuria and a peak creatinine of 462 µmol/L) after the re-introduction of an angiotensin-II receptor blocker (irbesartan) in a 66-year-old Caucasian diabetic male patient with bilateral renal stenosis and a right-sided single-functioning kidney, with a rapid improvement of the renal function which normalized 5 days after percutaneous angioplasty and stenting of the right renal artery.PMID:37941982 | PMC:PMC10629318 | DOI:10.1177/2050313X231209639 (Source: Molecular Medicine)

TGF ‐β/Smads signaling pathway, Hippo‐YAP/TAZ signaling pathway, and VEGF: Their mechanisms and roles in vascular remodeling related diseases
TGF- β/Smads signaling pathway, Hippo-YAP/TAZ signaling pathway, and vascular endothelial growth factor: their mechanisms and roles in vascular remodeling related diseases. AbstractVascular remodeling is a basic pathological process in various diseases characterized by abnormal changes in the morphology, structure, and function of vascular cells, such as migration, proliferation, hypertrophy, and apoptosis. Various growth factors and pathways are involved in the process of vascular remodeling. The transforming growth factor- β (TGF-β) signaling pathway, which is mainly mediated by TGF-β1, is an important factor in vasc...

Brachial plexus block using only 1% lidocaine to reduce pain during the endovascular treatment of dysfunctional arteriovenous access
CONCLUSIONS: BPB using only 1% lidocaine can induce a sensory block while minimizing the effect on motor function. It can be applied safely in an outpatient clinic setting with relatively higher satisfaction.PMID:37908067 | DOI:10.1177/11297298231190418 (Source: The Journal of Vascular Access)

Outcomes of Provisional Stenting With Versus Without Side Branch Intervention in Patients With Bifurcation Lesion –Related ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction
To date, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty of coronary bifurcation is considered a complex high-risk procedure. By definition, a bifurcation includes a main vessel, a distal vessel, and a side branch. The latter is the main determinant factor of stenting technique and long-term outcomes.1 Until now, the best treatment is not yet defined and should be tailored to every situation. The decision to start with an elective single or a double stenting technique remains a matter of debate, especially in complex coronary bifurcation. (Source: The American Journal of Cardiology)
