Diagnosis and treatment of Dunbar syndrome
Schmerz. 2023 Nov 21. doi: 10.1007/s00482-023-00766-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe rare Dunbar syndrome or medial arcuate ligament syndrome (MALS) is defined as compression of the celiac trunk and/or ganglion by the medial arcuate ligament. It is often diagnosed after patients have suffered for a long time and is characterized by intermittent food-related pain, nausea, and unexplained weight loss. After exclusion of other causes of the above symptoms by gastroscopy, colonoscopy, CT, or MRI, the gold standard for diagnosis is dynamic color-coded duplex sonography, which may be supplemented by CT or MR angiography. The...

Integrating vascular access surveillance with clinical monitoring for stenosis prediction
CONCLUSION: Blood flow surveillance models using thresholds of < 400 and < 600 mL/min, followed by thorough physical examination, showed an accuracy of 91.54% and 72.15% in predicting stenosis in patients with arteriovenous fistula and arteriovenous graft, respectively. These two blood flow surveillance models may be integrated with routine clinical monitoring to improve early detection and treatment of stenosis in hemodialysis patients.PMID:37980698 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-023-01799-2 (Source: Journal of Nephrology)

Randomized clinical trial to compare the efficacy of self-expanding bare metal nitinol stent and balloon angioplasty alone for below-the-knee lesions following successful balloon angioplasty: 1-year clinical outcomes
by Jihun Ahn, HyeYon Yu, Seung-Woon Rha, Byoung Geol Choi, Dong Oh Kang, Cheol Ung Choi, Sangho Park, Jon Seo, Kichang Kim, Minung Kim, Yong Hoon Kim, Yong Seong Seo This prospective, multicenter, randomized study aimed to compare the 1-year clinical outcomes after primary stenting with self-expanding bare metal nitinol stent (SENS) and plain old balloon angioplasty (POBA) in patients with critical limb ischemia (CLI) and below-the-knee (BTK) lesions. Overall, 119 patients with CLI and BTK lesions were randomized to POBA alone (POBA group, 61 patients) or primary stenting with SENS (stenting group, 58 patients) after achi...

Severe acute kidney injury in a patient with renal artery stenosis of a single-functioning kidney: A case report of rapid normalisation of the renal function after percutaneous transluminal angioplasty with stent placement
We describe a case of acute degradation of the renal function (with oligo-anuria and a peak creatinine of 462 µmol/L) after the re-introduction of an angiotensin-II receptor blocker (irbesartan) in a 66-year-old Caucasian diabetic male patient with bilateral renal stenosis and a right-sided single-functioning kidney, with a rapid improvement of the renal function which normalized 5 days after percutaneous angioplasty and stenting of the right renal artery.PMID:37941982 | PMC:PMC10629318 | DOI:10.1177/2050313X231209639 (Source: Molecular Medicine)
