Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Patients with Left Heart Hypoplasia and Left Ventricular Dysfunction Have Highest Odds of Mortality
To describe the scope of left ventricular (LV) dysfunction and left heart hypoplasia (LHH) in infants with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), to determine associations with CDH severity, and to evaluate the odds of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and death with categories of left heart disease. Acute compartment syndrome and fasciotomy after a viper bite in Italy: a case report
ConclusionsThis case highlights the importance of obtaining a timely assessment of the severity of viper envenomation without delaying the administration of antivenom in most serious cases. The presence of multiple bite marks on the patient is one factor that may help to predict the clinical severity of snakebites and anticipate symptom progression. Nationwide hospitalizations of patients with down syndrome and congenital heart disease over a 15-year period
Conclusions: A younger age at first admission is a predictor for mortality in patients with Down syndrome and congenital heart disease. If patients undergo more than one admission, the risk of further readmissions increases. There is a pivotal role for heart disease in influencing the hospitalization rate and subsequent mortality. What is Known:•Down syndrome individuals often face an increased risk of congenital heart diseases.•Congenital heart diseases contribute significantly to morbidity and mortality in Down syndrome patients. What is New:•This study analyzes nationwide data covering a 15-year period of pediatric ...

Clinical presentation and spectrum of gluten symptomatology in celiac disease
Views on the clinical presentation and symptomatology of celiac disease have evolved alongside advances in disease detection and understanding of disease pathogenesis. While historically regarded a pediatric illness characterized by malabsorption, it is now better viewed as an immune illness of gluten-specific T cells with systemic manifestations affecting all ages. Its broad presentation, including frequent extraintestinal manifestations and asymptomatic disease, contributes to suboptimal disease detection. (Source: Gastroenterology)

Predictive Factors of Progression to Chronic Glomerulonephritis in Pediatric Patients with Post Streptococcal Acute Glomerulonephritis
Post streptococcal acute glomerulonephritis (PSAGN) patients have favorable prognosis, in which most patients showed full recovery in terms of kidney function. However, there is a slight chance ranging from 3 –6% that PSAGN patients develop chronic kidney diseasewhich may progress into end stage kidney disease in later life. It is important to identify the factors that can predict the development of chronic glomerulonephritis following PSAGN. Therefore, early intervention can be performed to halt the p rogression of chronic kidney disease. (Source: Pediatrics and Neonatology)
