Dumb ERAS question
What’s the difference between 9/5 “students begin applying to programs” and 9/15 “programs receive applications?” Do I need to have my application finished by 9/5 or 9/15? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Applying on September 15 with not enough LORs
How screwed will I be if I submit my ERAS application on September 15 with only 2 LORs? The idea is that I would need to wait until the end of september-november to get the final letter. I was an idiot and didn't ask my preceptors for LORs. I have no idea how I'm going to get them now. I don't actually know how the residency application process works so I'm going to sound like an idiot, but considering it's not on a rolling basis, shouldn't I be OK if I don't actually have all my LORs in... How do MDs perform on COMLEX?
Has anyone ever done a study or something of how MD students might perform on the non-OMM sections of the COMLEX? Had an MD ever actually taken COMLEX, in any situation? I ask because it would be really interesting to gauge how schools teach to different tests. The USMLE is a “hard” test, and COMLEX is a “confusing” test - but would MDs do better on both tests, or would the type of teaching at DO schools better prepare a DO to score better on the basic sciences component? Research as a DO- serious frustration
To me (who's school offers zero research) it seems virtually impossible to get "needed" research. Why would a PI just let me work in his lab and give me authorship? The only researchers I could find who would let me work with them told me A) publication wouldn't be for years, and B) I would not be getting author credit. They said that "you can't just join in a research group and expect them to let you be an author, you need to work your way up to that and pay your dues." What I want is a... How do all these DOs in primary care make a living?
I'm talking about the DOs with student loans above 300k (most of them) and primary care salaries well under $170k (most of them). At my school, my total student loans will be $400,000, which by the end of residency, has compounded to $650,000. This means that, with a $150k salary (realistically), ill owe $60k/year in taxes and 65k in student loans, leaving $25k, which doesn't take into account malpractice insurance (which often exceeds $25k). These numbers aren't adding up. It seems to me... How do all these DOs in primary care make a living? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Feeling lost with how to start board prep
I went to the usmle/comlex board but tbh it feels like theyre speaking a language I don't know. Just started oms2, and it's obvious I need to start board prep. But not only to I not know how to do this, I don't know where to begin. I hear people use buzzwords like uworld anki pathoma qbank bros etc... I have no idea what these are... but more importantly I don't know how to use them in a study plan. It's obvious that board prep will cost a lot of money, so could I just sign up for a... I can't make heads or tails of this question
This is not a homework question. My friend who is now an intern sent me this question. He said it was an "excellent" question to summarize what you "should have learned in your first year." I read the question and I think he might be trolling me. This is the kind of guy who would find it hilarious to send me on a wild goose chase, but he's also been helpful. I can't understand it at all, but maybe one of you can understand it? A 35 year old male presents to a rural health clinic with... How to deal with family pressuring you to go into a specialty
My family and fiancée have always been supportive of my choices, but recently they've been seriously pressuring me about specialties to consider - and to not consider. I started medical school wanting to do psych or path. My fiancée thought I'd grow out of it, and said she'd support me, but recently has told me in no uncertain terms that she will not be married to a psychiatrist or a pathologist. It's not about the money (shes been dropping "hints" that wants me in FM) - it's about the... How to deal with family pressuring you to go into a specialty (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Reconciling obesity Guidelines
There are a few guidelines for determining obesity, so what do you do when they directly contradict each other? I've heard the "reliable" sources tell me that BMI and waistline are reliable indicators. So what do I do when a patient comes to me with a 24 BMI and a 40" waist? He doesn't show any sort of severe abdominal obesity or anything. His BMI says "normal," but his waistline meets the guideline for obese. I ask this in particular because I and one of my friends both have these same... Reconciling obesity Guidelines (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How to assess the quality of school's rotations before you attend?
Searched but could not find. When looking at DO schools, how can you tell if they have good rotation sites? All I know is Wards=Good, Preceptor=Bad, and as far as I know, schools that send you to hospitals for rotations are wards based? Please correct me. So how can a school have 20-30 hospitals that they send students to, all within 30 miles, and still have "bad rotations?" (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Caribbean Schools with Better match lists then DOs?
I always thought that Caribbean students were lucky to match at all, and if they did it was pretty much only to primary care. Everything my advisor told me said that American DOs will pretty much always to better at finding residency, and get better residencies, than Caribbean students. But then I looked at the match lists for Caribbean schools like Ross and St. George and they have great matches! tons of gen surg, urology, ophthalmology, derm, anaesthesia... all the big 3 match lists were...
