Outpatient practice and direct messaging service
I am a PGY3 resident in an academic hospital. I always thought that I would work in an outpatient practice after residency and hopefully some point down the line have my own practice. I have enjoyed much of the last 6 months, which has been entirely outpatient aside from 1 issue. Our hospital Epic system has a direct patient communication messaging system (MyChart). I understand that it can be helpful in many instances, but it is fatiguing and draining to be essentially "on call" all the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Questions about specialty pharmacy
I currently work LTC and have an interview coming up for a Specialty Care Clinical Pharmacist. I'm hoping to get some insight on the position because the job description is quite vague. This position is at the corporate headquarters of this pharmacy company, not an actual pharmacy location. It sounds like it will be a lot of phone communication with patients, providers, nurses...rather than physical dispensing of medications. Anyone work in a place like this? Care to share what you do... Questions about specialty pharmacy (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Be prepared for a bunch of touchy feely nonsense in med school
As far as I can tell this cancer has spread far and wide. Hopkins started doing it in the early 2000s. The simulated patient encounters started to change. Instead of focusing on good patient communication and history/physical skills, it became an exercise in "feelings" Example: during a simulated patient interview in front of the entire class, one of my colleagues was taken to task by a gay "patient" because the student shook his hand instead of giving the guy a hug. The "patient"... Be prepared for a bunch of touchy feely nonsense in med school (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Patient contact
I am in my first clinical year as a medical student. It is really the first time we have been 'let loose' on the wards. I have enjoyed learning about physiology, pathology, investigations and treatment as I really like the puzzle solving side of medicine. However I have been struggling with the patient communication side of things. My medical school pride themselves as producing the best communicators. I do not mind seeing patients, but i do get anxious especially when it's a little awkward... Patient contact (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Few questions - Help us improve communication with patients with cardiovascular (heart attack) problems.
Dear Cardiologists, I know how valuable your time is so I will keep it as concise as possible. We are a group of young entrepreneurs, currently taking part in Harvard Business School program "Innovating in Heathcare" and under its auspices we are trying to solve the problem of miscommunication between patients and cardiologists. According to various publications and researches, despite multiple tools and efforts to convey information to patients in an understandable way, there are still significant problems with post-appointment compliance resulting in readmissions and complications what costs billions of dollars ...
