Which specialty has the most self-learning?
I learn best from reading / studying on my own, I was wondering which specialties would be most conductive to this? I’m thinking radiology as of now. Not interested in pathology for various reasons. Academics / research are strong so matching shouldn’t be an issue I think. Thank you! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Anesthesia vs IM vs EM/IM - > CCM
M3 trying to choose between several pathways to CCM. I, as of right now, want to go into academic crit care, and frankly would want as much autonomy over my unit as possible. What I love about crit care is the breadth of knowledge, it being multi-system, the procedures, the intensity and mixture of fast-paced responses as well as deep thinking, and the range of pathology you can see. I was interested in the anesthesia pathway because I really enjoyed my anesthesia rotation, I love the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Probability of Pathology Residency Matching with less clinical experience
Hi there! I have a question regarding the chances of getting into a Pathology residency as a foreign medical graduate. I am 36 years old and work as a medical advisor at a digital health company in Germany. I have less than a year of clinical experience some 7 years back. Hypothetically speaking, if I was to attain high scores in the USMLE steps, would I stand a chance to match to a path speciality training? I'd be very grateful for your answers! Thanks! Clinical Lab Director
Hello, How did you guys learn how to become a lab director. I’d like to learn how to manage a lab (answer questions from docs etc, prepare lab for inspection) for extra income but my residency didn’t teach me sh%t about managing a lab. I’m in practice now but have no role in lab directorship yet. Basically didn’t learn much in the way of CP from residency. No hands on learning. Just studied compendium and Osler. Did you guys just learn on the job (if you were lucky enough to have a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

The Dark Report
has a snippet that refers to an “industry wide lack of pathologists…”. Is this currently the case? This confuses the s*** out of me. Seems the polar opposite of everything I hear. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

HOPD with In-office lab?
Lets say a private practice Urology group with an in-house AP POD lab merges with a large hospital and becomes a Hospital Out-Patient Department. Would this affect the legality and/or billing allowances for their existing Path lab? Could they still operate their Path lab? I'm just not sure I know the answer to this. stand alone e-prescription platform
Does anyone use any stand alone e-prescription software or platform? Yes, pathologists do not usually prescribe. But sometimes friends ask for a favor, or family members need a medication before they can see PCP, or need some antibiotics for ourselves. I know self-prescription is not encouraged, but I don't think it is a huge deal as long as we don't do that often and don't prescribe controlled substance. Did anyone try any cheap stand alone e-prescription platform? Any recommendations? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Setting up derm clinic?
We have two dermpaths in our group and there is currently about an 18 month wait for new visits at the local dermatology clinics. Has anyone ever heard of a path group setting up a dermatology clinic staffed by their dermpaths (and a PA or two)? Kind of turn the tables on the podlab model. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Quitting residency (AP/CP)
Hi everyone, As of late I have been disillusioned by my residency program & am contemplating quitting. I'm in a four-year AP/CP residency but I can switch to AP if I am so inclined. What do you all think? I imagined myself calling up my program director and telling him I'm not planning on continuing, although I'd feel really bad about it. How do I quit with grace? Say after the first year. At least then the call schedule and tumor board will not be affected for next year. (Source: Student Doctor Network)
