We have questions regarding away rotations. Should he apply for an away at his legacy school? Is march-april the time to get in the visiting students applications in?
It is also his home-state and close to grandparents (we have 2 kids, my oldest is 2 and autistic). There is also another program he’s interested in at the same state (CA). He worked in a path lab for 3 years before going to medical school and is pretty sure he wants this.

Rural Job gets 25 Applications!
Just more evidence to suggest this field is over saturated. A friend interviewed at a high paying rural job, (middle of nowhere) and the recruiter mentioned they got 25 applications for one position. People applying from both coasts.
Recruiter mentioned she has never seen this level of interest in a job position from other specialties.
Med students I would think twice before going into this field unless you absolutely hate everything else in medicine.

Pay for Lab Director position.
I have a potential opportunity for a lab director position. I would be visiting the lab twice a week for a few hours at a time.

Reimbursement cuts - what other physicians are saying
I started a recent thread about a Medscape survey that showed which specialties in 2023 "reportedly" had pay increases, including Pathology. I mentioned the increased was because we are working harder, and not because of CMS is bumping up reimbursement. To which someone also posted, 2024 will bring further proposed cuts to pathology.

Physician pay increases in 2023 - Path is tied for 2nd lowest
OK, before anyone says Medscape surveys are useless, I agree with that for the most part. On the bright side, a pay increase is better than the alternative.

Hello,
I was wondering in regards to negotiating salary, when taking into consideration the work, how does one calculate or determine what’s a fair salary?
