Hca/fps buyout
Although we haven't been officially contacted, it seems as though there are strong interests by fps/hca to continue to expand their network. We anticipate them to not renew our contract sooner rather than later. I am wondering if anyone has any negotiation experience with these folks. My understanding is, they prefer to only negotiate 1 on 1 with pathologists for the purposes of "rehiring." Any experience? Hca sucks, for sure, and I'd probably exit if they said take it or leave it. I'm... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Best On-shift references
About a year out of residency, working at a small ED, without many specialists in house. Was wondering if anyone has recommendations for good references to use during shift? I have Wikem and Uptodate, also use epocrates for medication. Pedistat for peds. But once in a while I'll get some less common pathology and would like to know the standard ED management/disposition which is often missing from Wikem. Uptodate is good but doesn't really have much ED specific guidelines. I used to have... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Transferring Histopathology from India to MD Anderson
I need to get a histopathology slide from India to MD Anderson for my cousin who has rectal cancer. My cousin only has one slide and MD Anderson is asking for the pathology material in the form of glass slide or wax blocks. Is there a company that uses Phillips intellisite or other tech to digitally share imaging? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Does the UWorld subject division reflect the real exam's subject division?
Uworld doesn't have equal amounts of questions for each subject. For ex. Pathology and Pathophysiology are 35% of the total qbank. Does this accurately reflect the percent division on the actual exam? For ex on the real step 1 does Pathology and Pathophysiology only compromise 35% of the questions? How do rural pathologists make so much?
Currently working at a 15-person group in the mid-Atlantic ~31,000 cases per year. Making ~$250k total compensation as an employee. I have worked consistent 11-hour days since the start of the year. I consider myself very efficient and don't get distracted easily. After catching up with someone I trained with recently, they mentioned they made $550k, last year. They currently work in a rural part of North Carolina doing general surg sign out. Their workload is similar to my own, yet they... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Interesting...
At Penn State, a fast track to pathology residency - CAP TODAY March 2022—A new program called Pathology Accelerated Pathway at Penn State shepherds pathology-bound students toward residency readiness in three years instead of four and is set to begin this spring. www.captodayonline.com Thoughts? It seems like it could attract a few AMGs? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

IMG looking for a native English speaking conversation partner
Hii, I’m a Brazilian MD and (hopefully) future pathology resident in the US and I’m looking for a FEMALE conversation partner. My purpose is to practice my english, exchange culture/experiences related or not to Medicine/Pathology, share USMLE frustrations, help you with Portuguese or just chat about anything. Random? Definitely, but if you spend hours scrolling any social media feed - why not invest some time helping a colleague and even (maybe) have fun or learn something new…If you... Public/online perception of personality disorders
It seems to be on trend in some online spaces--with bleed into real life--to ascribe personality disorders (notably antisocial/narcissistic/borderline) to, essentially, everyone you dislike. Everyone's ex is a narcissist or has BPD, everyone's parent is a narcissist, etc--basically, anyone who wrongs or hurts you has some underlying personality pathology that also alleviates any nuance from the situation and any responsibility of you personally (or, if you've decided you have a PD, nothing... Chances for next match
Hello guys, I am an IMG applicant with low scores: step 1<210, step 2-22x, currently working as a pathology resident in home country. I will get 1/2 US LORs and maybe 1/2 home LORs. Do you think I have any chances? And which is more important- to have more USCE or pass step 3? My end goal is to become a forensic pathologist and I am trying to find elective but without any success. Thank you in advance. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Big Moves by Quest and Labcorp
I keep noticing some bold moves by both Quest and Labcorp eating up hospital lab services. Are we all destined to be their employees at this rate? This is a very concerning trend and I don't see a good way to defend against it. I've been impacted twice now. I recently left a job where Quest bought out all the outpatient work, only to start work at another hospital system, who subsequently sold out to Labcorp within the same year. "First, Ascension will sell its hospital... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
